Default Get a $10000 interest free "Green Loan"

Green Loans is a new Australian Government initiative to help Australians tackle climate change.

The Green Loans Program assists Australian families to install solar, water saving, and energy efficient products.

    The Green Loans Program provides:

    1. detailed, quality Home Sustainability Assessments; and
    2. access to Green Loans of up to $10,000, that are interest free for up to a maximum of four years, to make the changes recommended in the assessment.

Has anyone heard anything about this program? Interest free for 4 years sounds pretty good.

yes, i have invented a new shower head that has err.. um 4 holes, thus saving water. with an 80% saving i believe everyone should get one. i am selling them in plastic for $120 or lead for $250.

with the new $10,000 grant i hope to redesign the basics of the system, possibly by removing one more hole. trials are still underway.

    Default Green Loans

This does not surprise me, as recall our family's financial provider (Credit Union) doing a short survey about 6 months ago, and "offering green loans" was a prominent question in the survey.

In short it would be a win-win, as consumer is contributing to reducing green house emissions and the provider of the loan is being viewed as having green credentials just by supplying the finance.

Just noted the link towards the bottom of your original URL referenced -> Green Loans, and noted this was last updated 21st October, 2009 (as previous page had no time stamp - which I find pretty useless considering a lot of this could be time sensitive stuff!) Therefore looks legit. Imagine you need to do an audit, before you get the dough

Yes some one has to come around, examine in detail every room and show you how to make you house "green".
My neighbour had the audit done many months ago and still does not have the documents needed for the Green loan approval.
Some solar installers offer interest free loans for three years with no hassle or waiting time.

What a smart way for the Govt to look good but spend next to nothing.

Offer interest free loans, they only need to cover the interest only which is quite low ATM.

Much cheaper to run than the solar scheme they had running where the public could have a free solar system installed.

Personally i dont see the gain, i could walk into a bank and take a loan at a low rate for very low interest rates too and spend it how i pleased.

Sure it will cost me some money...so whats the big deal with this scheme?

    1) it's interest free. What are current personal loan interest rates like? At 10% you'd save a couple of grand.

    2) it would cut energy bills

    3) applicants get a warm & fuzzy for helping to 'save the planet'

Against the house its much lower than 10%.

Yes it would cut bill, but unfortunately i have to spend $1000's to gain back a few $100 per year. I could not be bothered waiting 20 years to break even.

Id rather spend the loan in better ways to make money (make money out of it quickly), to pay the higher energy costs or do as i pleased. Now that would give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Hmm, makes me think of my parents that recently got the solar panels in the govt rebate that ended back around March-June this year. They apparently need their meter upgraded to record electricity both ways, as advised they are being charged for feeding excess back into the grid. Imagine the meter can't distinguish where the electricity is coming from! So better add a new meter to that list.

Sorta think the neighbours may complain about the wind turbine
