The LANGUAGE file for Australia is called "english_aus.zip" and it goes in the contentlang folder on the SD card. (note - DO NOT UNZIP the file). If you want alternate languages there are some called "Lang_English-UK_Pda.zip", "Lang_English-US_PDA.zip" or foreign languages such as "arabic.zip" etc also available. Try these links:

VOICE files are different and they go in the contentvoice folder on the SD card. Voices can be found at

Of course your selected VOICE file must be compatible with your chosen LANGUAGE file.

If you want text-to-speech (TTS) ie spoken STREET NAMES as well, then that is more involved. I don't think TTS works on CE4.2 devices.

My Australia_ProductB.poi file is 14,287kB ... sounds like you have a newer one. Do you have a link please?

The newer Australian map is Australia8.3NAVTEQ_2008.Q4_090612.fbl

yep thats right.. thats the only poi file i got, i just posted it so people can get it by it self if they wanted to

Great - that seems to have fixed my POI problem. All working now on CE 4.2
except for TTS.

awesome about your poi's working now

if your using a 4.2 ce, that's probably why your tts is not working. I didn't realize your using a 4.2 system.. those DLL files may not be programed to run on 4.2 - try googling " TTS IGO8 4.2 " or something like that...

try putting this in your sys.txt

tts_buffer=65536
tts_logics=3

[tts]
announce_exit_directions=0

yay 09 maps! with the .dem file, the one I have is like 130MB but the new one is 1.3MB? did they find a super efficient way of doing it? lol

its Oceania.dem its a different region.... lol if you zoom out heaps it think it shows more of the ocean ?? im not sure tho.. .just throw the file in there and see how you go...

just for everyones info, there is a new POI file which is now 19mb and a 318kb speedcam txt file, i have not tested it yet..

does anyone know what the phoneme folder does ? ( Australia.ph )

but i have a noobie question and sorry for this, but how do you change the skin? i cant find the place to change from skin 1 to skin 2 to use the cars?
do i have to unzip something or change something in the sys.txt file? sorry for my noobness..lol

yes its defiantly a noob question, but i forgive you hehe just kidding.

go to MAIN MENU > SETTINGS > CLICK RIGHT ARROW > MENU > SKIN

The phoneme files contain rules for pronouncing road names etc. correctly and are customised for each country or region. I've noticed that the TTS pronunciation for a lot of roads around Brisbane has improved a lot with this release. There is also one for the NZ map (NewZealand.ph).

Just replace the existing maps, thats it... if that does not work then you will need to upgrade your igo what what i supplied. old version of igo may not read newer maps...

no not really, just format it as normal, just make sure its FAT32 file system that's all...

Thanks Hollowman so far so good but cant seem to get ANY sound going at all. My Chinese car DVD/GPS player use CE 5 and Samsung chip

I have download and installed the TTS folder into the root of iGO folder where the iGO exe is and replace all the files in that TTS folder (Including the CONTENT folder right?).

Do i need to turn some thing on before it work? sorry first time using GPS here

try that didnt work.

When i first install iGo8 into the system it goes through the first initial setup like language,voice,date/time etc. When u click on the diff voice ie male or female it make that person's voice but now it dont do it any more. Any idea?

I can hear the tone sound of the keys is press but just not the voice sound of the person telling me to turn left or right.

EDIT: Nevermind found out the problem guess it help if i turn on/tick the the damn speaker button while in the map display area menu.

Great stuff hollowman, already had Igo 8.34 with latest map but with the help of this thread I now have TTS. Wish the TT saga was this easy!
