    Yes I know, I did read about this elsewhere but don't remember if there was a fix for it.

    When i first install iGo8 into the system it goes through the first initial setup like language,voice,date/time etc. When u click on the diff voice ie male or female it make that person's voice but now it dont do it any more. Any idea?

    I can hear the tone sound of the keys is press but just not the voice sound of the person telling me to turn left or right.

    EDIT: Nevermind found out the problem guess it help if i turn on/tick the the damn speaker button while in the map display area menu.
    haha LMAO ! im glad you sorted it out

    this might fix it.. add it to your sys.txt if its not already there, if its already there just change the exit directions to 0.... as with the buffer thing, dont need to add that, unless your having issues with it...

    [tts]
    tts_buffer=65536
    tts_logics=3

    [tts]
    announce_exit_directions=1

    igo tends to stuff up the time / date on your windows mobile phone.. if that is occurring, add this

    [timezone]
    sync_os_timezone=0
    reset_os_timezone=0

    Default help?

    Ok...I am completely new to GPS's....In any case I purchased a chinese 2 din all in one unit. It came with some variant of rout66 (was crap) so I have followed the instructions as per this thread for installing igo8. I must have done something wrong because I now seem to have jammed the unit - As soon as I hit Navi, it goes to a screen calibration page and then onto a language selection page......this is where it stays unless I disconnect the battery, in which cas it just goes through the same cycle again anyway!!!
    I'm sure you guys get sick of this kind of problem - but I have No idea what to do next? Is it stuffed? How do I hard reset?

    Tried this but seems to make no difference, still calls main roads by number rather than name. I know I read about this some time ago but can't remember if there was a solution.

    Hopefully you have done a backup of your original system, and if so, look at the root of the original SD card (route66), there should be a text file (startup.txt, system.ini or something similar to start the program) copy it to the root of the SD card of Igo and change the text from route66 to Igo.
    As far as resetting the unit I can't help as I don't have one of these, but I'm sure hollowman will ahve the answer.

    There is a solution for it, I've read it somewhere also.
    There is a file that you need to edit, you put in the number and the text that you want the system to say for that number.
    Sorry I don't have any more info but I'm sure a search will find it.

    I found what appears to be a solution. Added this to the sys.txt and seems to work:

    [tts]
    always_say_road_names=1

    Still testing but so far so good.

    @subtob,

    You can also add the complete section shown below which seems to work well in all my devices.

    [tts]
    always_say_road_names=1
    announce_exit_directions=1
    announce_street_name=1
    priority="HIGH"
    tts_buffer=131072
    tts_logics=3

    Cheers, Ian

    Will try this,.. mine's always an hour out with whatever I've tried changing. Not that it matters too much as I'm not displaying it anymore.

    Well, both the short and long versions in sys.txt seem to be working ok, I have tried on a WinCE 5 and WinCE 4.2 unit so far.

    I have managed to get the menu up by changing the file name of iGO to route66......but now it won't let iGO run - it comes up with the message "program application database cannot be found" Any thoughts?????

    Need more details, what did you actually change, can you tell what comes up when you fire up the system?

    In the sys text folder atm there is some other texts as well, so all i do is copy the above texts under all the other current texts in that folder and thats it?.

    Also how to press this THANKS BUTTON thingy? want to say thanks to Hollowman for this awesome Noob guide and you for the help.
