Symonds could face a serious punishment if the International Cricket Council decides that he breached section 4.2 of the player's code of conduct relating to a physical assault of a rival player, an official or a spectator.

It carries a ban ranging anywhere from five Test matches or 10 limited-overs internationals up to a life ban.

The spectator is expected to be fined $3000 for invading the pitch - but faces a possible jail term for wilful exposure.

Nice Shoulder Check (sorry I'm an Ice Hockey fan). I did love his expression after the guy went down, as well as the Indian's reactions. You know if these idiots are going to run out there then why shouldn't they be hit. As for the ban, he could always claim he was in danger or the guy just ran into him (hey we use it at Ice as a defense sometime), personally it should be used as an example of what could happen.

Then again I've seen Symonds just about clobber someone who "smacked" him on the back when he was coming off the ground after getting out cheaply. He stopped when he realised what he was doing but the kid didn't try it again that night. IMHO Spectators get away with a lot of bullshit around the players and they are extremely tolerant of it. I think a LOT more should be done to protect them (but still allow kids to get autographs, which is what is stopped!). If I went and smacked a guy on the back I would expect to be flattened.
Coding in C is like sending a 3 year old to do groceries. You gotta tell them exactly what you want or you'll end up with a cupboard full of pop tarts and pancake mix.

NO...The streaker is a threat...Symonds was only protecting himself...well that would be my defence at any rate.
It was tense enough out on the ground as it was...dont need dickheads like this making it worse...idoit.

Any clown silly enough to run onto the ground this day and age should cop it sweet.
Once the guy jumped the fence he was fair game (within reason), Roy was just lending the security fellas a helping shoulder.

That's nice in theory, but can you actually see any security guards between symonds and the aggressor?
Had he pushed his way past security people to hit the streaker, then fair enough. But when someone charges at you, you don't stand there and think, "I'll be fine. I'll just stand here like a roast chicken and someone will rush out faster than a speeding bullet and intercept him"
Crap! You get charged at by some nutter, you take care of it.

Love it....the streaker was a whimp anyway as it didnt look like he hit that hard....probably got caught up in the mardi gra festivities from the weekend and thought he was floating on air.

Urban I disagree the players should be able to punch/kick or shoulder them.....infact there should be more of it...cricket is getting too serious, shit even the indians were smiling!

Video looks to me like andrew symonds moved out of his way to shoulder barge the streaker

    little extract from the smh

"Brisbane lawyer Neil Lawler said the cricketer could be in strife if the man decides to press charges. "I think Symonds may have a real problem if the man decides to make a complaint," Lawler said.

"Symonds has no right to assault any person that enters the field. Andrew Symonds isn't a policeman.

"I think Symonds is a champion cricketer but that's reckless."

Another high-profile sports lawyer said Symonds could not claim a citizen's arrest as his actions were "a clear assault", as opposed to bringing down someone committing a crime.

So standing your ground is now classified as assault ? I think they are dreaming

If someone is charging in your direction ( video shows that the man changed direction and headed towards Symonds ) you are within your rights to stand your ground and take a " hip and shoulder " stance for your own protection.

Symonds wont be charged for 2 reasons. One is that it is ridiculous. The other is that if the guy pressed charges , Australians would make his life very unpleasant.

We dont need to reward idiots for their actions by allowing them to complain and claim compensation , we do that enough as it is. The idiot should get a $3000 fine and a 2 month ban from attending matches.

If he tried what he did at some sporting events around the world , he would probably have the crap beaten out of him and been zapped with stun guns and tazers.

Agree with Sanity 100%. I'm really getting sick of hearing about criminals being defended for their stupid or illegal actions!
