updating ps3 help

hi,

i'm updating the firmware of a fat 40gb ps3 thru a usb stick.
it goes up to about 30% then stop with error code: (8002F147)

i've tried a diff hdd, still no go.

anything else i can do?

Update over the net, try the update from a diff source, try a diff usb key

can't update it over the net coz as soon as u turn on the ps3 it go straight to the update and try to update again. tried a diff usb stick still no good. i will try update from a diff source see how that goes.

ps: the original firmware that i downloaded was from us.playstation.com

what version firmware are you updating from?

try this:
First: Reset your PS3 Controller (take a toothpick, and push the button on the back)
Second: Use a USB Cable then try updating.
the contoller could be the problem especially if you've used it on your PC before.

sounds stupid but apparently it can sometimes work

you probably know this but all info i found points to sending the console back to sony. and nobody seems to know why this happens. maybe a bad nand flash ic but more to do with the software i believe.

thanks for the suggestions guys, but i still can not update the ps3.
i think you are right about the bad nand flash. coz i plug the hdd + the usb into another ps3 and it updated fine.

try this:

remove the hdd
power on
let run for 30 sec
turn off
put hdd back
(this process apparently clears the nvram where the update is held before it is installed)

power on and update.

reports indicate this works sometimes but takes like 20 goes.

thanks, but that did not work either, tried about 10 x
gave up.
anyway in the process of finding the solution for this i did discover the unlock code for those ps3 in demonstration mode...lol.

Hello everyone, I have recently bought a new Playstation 3 and I usually download games directly from playstation store online by paying for it. I only have 60gb internal hard drive space to store this games. So I just wanted to know how to backup playstation 3 games on my computer or an external hard drive? Anybody has any tips that can share with me? Thank you
