    Thanks mate.

    Yes, that's for sure.

In particular the full sized remote control which makes it easier to find the recording buttons.

I have a selectv card in mine which just works in the lower card slot, as well as an aurora card in a CI cam just for the hell of it.

Component video output is so much clearer on my plasma too.

I wasn't very impressed with the component out on the 500. The compost out looked better (and that's meant to look like rubbish!) ;-)

For a Dm7025 page 6 says you must earth your LNB.

Looks like you have to earth your LNB.

Please earth your LNB when using ANY model of dreambox, even in Thailand.

Has anyone managed to program their TV with the dm7020 remote?
From the handbook the sequence to do this is push the "TV Mode Button" then hold down Shift for about 3 seconds which will cause the TV mode button to flash.. this is where it goes pear shaped as the DREAM button flashes twice.
If i continue and put in a 4 digit code, the remote doesn't recognize this (its supposed to flash the TV mode button twice again for a valid code..)
    Anyone care to give enlighten

I have been saying it for months, and all i hear is people bragging about how long they've gotten away with not doing it etc etc.

Then again I look at all the clowns who don't earth their boxes/lnb's and all the threads with problems with tuners, power, boot loaders etc etc.

All can be avoided by earthing the LNB....RTFM !

Then there are those clever people who reckon just cause they remove their lnb while flashing that they are safe....no way.

If you don't earth your DM500s in particular, then you are a fool....sorry.

I destroyed 6 boxes in one week at my place before I found out.

Just earth the friggin' thing, I'm no building expert so don't ask me, contact Dream and ask them where to do it on your watery site Jonc .

It's common sense most of the time.

    Yep, I would.

In this forum scene where we plug and unplug stuff it would be a good precaution.

I get a decent belt from some Humaxes....

Ya poor bugger, 6 boxes, wow, most people learn after one (big smile) Never lost one box because of this, mind you as I said before the crash on here, I do have a UPS on the boxes and TV's as we have constant brownouts up here.

The insiduous thing about ESD is that it fails after a few power on/off cycles, so its hard to associate what you've just done with a failure.

All mine worked fine till the final test.

Wait till you see what is required to fix a LNB controller on a 7020/7025.
It's an absolute ball breaker to unsolder, they've covered the whole underneath of the chip heatsink with solder.

Here is a pic for you (for when you eventually blow one if you ever have a stray voltage due to no LNB earth) Jonc.

And yes, that is one I just replaced....

for a lousy 10 bucks and 5 minutes i see no reason why one would not make an earth lead up and be done with it.

Now as far as i have seen so far here and in many other forums where dreams are spoken about if i was from dream media i would be saying " cool look at all the warranty void units " as it states within the manual the the LNB cable must be earthed

straight up and simple no earth no warranty

So is anyone going to offer to show or explain a good LNB cable earthing method?? Should it be earthed at the Dish end or the Receiver and? Should the receiver chassis be earthed seperatly? Do you earth the RG6 crimp plug? If you have more than one RG6 cable from multiple LNBs should you bond all of these also, say to a common earthing block?

From what i've seen of phantom voltages in the end of RG6 LNB feed cable is more to do with poorly run cables that run parallel with 240volt cabling and/or earth loops from other A/V equipment connected with RCA cables.
