for HDMI your monitor/tv needs to be HDCP compliant.
When you switch between hdmi and other outputs reset the playstation by holding down the power button whilst its on standby.
Cheers
Hey guys, have tried hooking up my PS3 using the HDMI plug instead of using the usual AV plugs, the reason is I have only 2 AV ins on the TV and both are already being used.
Problem is, only sound is coming through and no picture, and the sound is only coming through the TV speakers and not the surround sound system like the the 2 AV ports do.
The TV also has 2 Component connections but when trying to use them for the PS3 it gives me sound but a blury picture.
Is this normal?, can anyone suggest anything that may help?

my mate had to change the settings in the ps3 over to hdmi 1st, then restarted with hdmi plugged in.
Stop being so stupid.. it’s my turn!!
Turn the ps3 and leave you finger on the power button. Should reset the display settings
Thanks guys, later tonight I will try holding down the power button for 5 secs and see if it fixes the problem and report back.
So my final question is before trying your answers....... If I haven't configured the PS3 to use HDMI, then why is it giving me audio through the HDMI but no video, and why is the audio only coming through the TV speakers and not the surround system like everything else is. i.e- Wii and Foxtel?
And how do I use the Component connection on the TV to hook up the PS3, because I get sound but a blury picture?

Also another tip, with HDMI always make sure your TV is turned on first with the HDMI channel selected, then turn on your device....as the HDMI has some sort of 'hand shake' process...the device will check first what it is actually plugged into....I found this when using my HTPC via HDMI....
