Default What are your main games played on your Cabinet?

    Long story short...

A relative was talking about retro games, and all the wonderment experienced whilst playing them in the day..

Downloaded an emulator and some roms and his excitement was palpable!

then a few days later, he was over it citing he remembers them being better

I would imagine, you guys doing the cabinets are not necessarily doing the project just for the games, but perhaps the challenge of the build, creating an functioning system, and ultimately a finely crafted cabinet!

So, in all honesty, what games do you think you (your family/friends) would most likely play regularly.

I could only come up with a few all based on big sellers in the day

    galaga
    space invaders
    pacman

there would be others I am sure (some of the best games IMHO were on the amstrad)

what has been your experience's with retro games, reading about some of these builds, and the game collection is in the 1000's, just curious.

    Hmmm

The enjoyment I get from the cabinet is challenging the kids to games..

    My son loves Timepilot..

My 5 yo daugter loves burgertime.

Others that get a regular play is space invaders (wife)
I like Rally - X and moon patrol.

There are so many others but perhaps I'm a 80's tragic

First loves from childhood that remain my top five:
    Space Invaders
Galaxian (original Namco version, not the Midway one!)
    Pacman
    Frogger
    Phoenix

Others I enjoyed in the arcade and still play to death on emulators:
    Galaga
    Crush Roller
    Battlezone
    Berzerk
    Moon Cresta
    Rally-X
    Scramble
    Qix
    Amidar

Others I'm hopeless at but which are popular with friends:
    Mr Do!
    Pengo
    Defender
    1942
    Tutankham
    Donkey Kong
    Zaxxon

As you can tell I much prefer the old 8-bit games. For some reason once they went to more advanced processors, eg Double Dragon and Rygar, they lost their charm for me. Maybe it's because in those later years I was working in a video arcade during uni, handing out coins and cleaning toilets, that took the shine off the experience! But I really prefer the simplicity of the early games, probably because they take me back to childhood. It's like that with Dr Who and James Bond: most of us prefer the ones we experienced first.
