For those out there that use PeerGuardian there is a newer Program based on it called "PeerBlock".....
It seems to be a lot more stable and updates the lists a lot better.
Enjoy.

How effective are these types of programs at shielding you and p2p activities from others?
Do others here use these? Do you put alot of faith in this type of program?
Up until recently, I was a regular user of torrents. However, sicce receiving a C&D email from my ISP (forwarded from some company of behalf of Activision in the US), I have not gone anywhere near torrents.
Am I being paranoid?
Will this program keep me 'safe' while using torrents?
N.
I think peer guardian is ok. there is another one out peerblock but dont know anything about it.
You could also use a linux box sitting inbetween your computer you use for downloading and your modem and do all the IP level blocking there but that isnt for the faint hearted.

i received a similar email as closershave received.
supposed peerblock cant stop this sort of tracking but im looking into other options as well.
Just out of interest....whats your download limit, and how often would you use this up?
I ask as I read in previous threads that ISP's appear to pick out customers who are so-called heavy users of their accounts and this may or may not explain why some receive these letters where others such as myself haven't as yet (touch wood)
As I say, only asking as i'm certainly not heavy user of my account and I'm certainly not a ligth user as such.

well i was on the tpg 50gb (25/25) plan and would max that 1 out of 3 months. Now on the 100gb plan and still have not maxed it out (been on for about 4 mths now)
I dont believe the letter was just sent to heavy users. The email i received was from the mediasentry forward by TPG. The Original email had my BT port number, as well as the torrent i was downloading and its file size. So it was not a random email or anything.
Also looking at the comments posted on the torrent search site, others that got the same torrent have received similar emails from their ISP's
in addition to peer block i'm also blocking the media sentry IP's via ipfilter in utorrent
