Talking Garmin City Navigator 2010.20 + Mapsource with Extras for Windows Mobile TUTORIAL

If there are any mistakes, please PM me to let me know so that I can fix them. Please notify me of dead links as well, I'll do my best to fix it.

for most of you, it will work the first time, however some of you will have problems, some minor and some major. All devices are different and you will get many different typesof errors. I can't list all the issues here but I want to ask people to help each other out and support each other if someone asks for help. I'll do my best as well.

If there are newer versions of what I uploaded here, please let me know, please dont just say there is a newer one, please supply the link or upload it yourself.

I appologise in advance if there are mistakes in this tutorial, I'v done the best of my ability by sitting here for hours doing it. If there are mistakes, please don't ignore it, let me and the forum community know.

    THINGS TO KNOW:
    ------------------------------------------------------

    1) English voices / App only.
    2) Australia map only (lasest version NT 2010.20 as of 3/12/09)
    3) If you get errors or trouble starting the application ask here for help or Google it, because google is your friend.
    4) None of my archives have passwords - I share, not keep secrets.
    5) Don't extract directly to the memory card, files tend to get corrupt that way !
    6) You MUST use the keygen I supplied with checksum fix, your existing one WONT work for this map.
    7) The map is already unlocked, you don't have to use/install mapsource if you dont need it. Only install it if you wish to create another map or you some how loose your unlocked map.
    8) MapID is 2046 for this version of the map.
    9) When I say "device" I'm refering to your Windows Mobile Phone or PDA.
    10) Depending on your device the memory unit can be refered to as "Storage Card", "SDMMC", or "StorageCard"
    11) There is an alternative way to get your CARD/UNIT ID, rather then launching the app and going through the menus of Garmin XT, Just install Mapsource, click on UTILITIES >> GET UNIT ID. This will display your CARD/UNIT ID. From there you can copy and paste it in the keygen. If you don't want to install mapsource, then just continue on and follow the steps I provided. The installation of MapSource is optional (see below picture)
    12) This tutorial looks really long, but it actually isn't, it's like this because I've made it idiot proof lol.

WHAT DEVICE DOES THIS WORK ON?
    ------------------------------------------------------

    1) Any Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.5 devices and possibly 7
    2) Confirmed working on my HTC TyTN II, HTC Touch Pro 2, Touch Diamond 2 Phone and mio168 running windows mobile 2003 with CE 4.2 core)

    WHAT TO DOWNLOAD:
    ------------------------------------------------------

    1) REQUIRED - or get it from
    2) REQUIRED - version NT 2010.20 [UNLOCKED]
    3) REQUIRED -
    4) OPTIONAL - 2010.20 update for Australia & New Zealand
    4) OPTIONAL -
    5) OPTIONAL -

Note: 3D Buildings & Junction View supported only on select Garmin nuvi units. Check out the Garmin web site to see if your unit is capable. Check out for more info and see what people have reported.

    PREPERATION:
    ------------------------------------------------------

    1) OPTIONAL - Back up any Garmin data that you may have (eg: poi's, vehicles, maps, speed cams etc).
    2) OPTIONAL - Uninstall/Delete any previous Garmin versions.
    3) REQUIRED - There are a few ways you can install Garmin for your PDA / Window Mobile device, take a pick, what ever is easier for you.

    a) Take out your microSD or SD card that your phone uses and insert it into a card reader for your computer or laptop, so that you will have REMOVABLE DISK (X) drive in My Computer.

    b) If your device supports USB storage mode, then you can use that.

    c) Make sure you have activsync installed and working. Make sure the phone can connect via activsync, this is so that GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_50020w.exe can install on your device.

Basically, you just need your phone/memory card connected to the PC.

    4) REQUIRED - Have installed.

NOTE: Windows Vista and Seven 7 have activsync built in and you don't need to install it, however XP users can download Activsync here, which is optional

    INSTALLATION:
    ------------------------------------------------------

    1) Connect device / memory card / phone as per instructions in "PREPERATION"
    2) Assuming you downloaded everything, open GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_50020w.exe and install it to your device.
    3) Extract the [GARMIN Australia & NZ Map 2010.20 [UNLOCKED].rar] file using winrar, you will get a GMAPSUPP.IMG file - This is your map file.
    4) Copy the GMAPSUPP.IMG file to the Garmin folder on your SD card / Device.
    5) Extract Additions.rar and put Additions.xml, gmap3d.img and gmaptz.img to the Garmin folder of your device (just in the root of Garmin, not anywhere else!).
    6) Create a folder under Garmin, JVC and put D2003010B.JCV in there (DEVICE\GARMIN\JVC)
    7) Thats all you need to do for now, so that Garmin is installed on your device, now to activate and unlocked !

GARMIN XT UNLOCK CODE / ACTIVATION:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

    1) Unless your copying the files via usb, put your SD card back in your device.
    2) Run the Garmin application from \Device\Garmin\WM\QuePPC.exe (not QueSP.exe because that's for smart phone).
    3) GarminXT should load up and give you a list of some options. Choose [Search for a garmin gps] or similar, its the bottom option. Choose this and it will give you access to the main menu (if it starts to search for a GPS, just hit skip for now, you can configure it later).
    4) Go into ‘tools’ (the spanner icon), then settings (again, the spanner) then scroll down to ‘about’ and write down the 10 digit Card ID.
    5) Exit Garmin XT
    6) Extract JM-KG-v1.5+5Digit+ChecksumFix.rar
    7) Run JM-KG-v1.5+5Digit+ChecksumFix.exe
    8) Enter the card id that you wrote down in the [enter the unit id here] field, choose Garmin Mobile XT, then press Generate
    9) Copy or write down the generated code (don't close the keygen)
    10) Create a text file somewhere on your PC and copy/type the generated code in it.
    11) In notepad, go to file, save as, then save the file and name it SW.UNL (NOT SW.TXT.UNL)
    12) Copy the SW.UNL file to the Garmin folder of your phone (the root of garmin folder, not anywhere else !).
    13) Launch Garmin again and it should now be registered and working (You may need to select the Map from the menu. To do this go to Tools, Manage My Data, Map Sets - and make sure the relevant file is enabled.

    MAPSOURCE UNLOCK CODE / ACTIVATION:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

PART A) GETTING THE CODE FOR MAPSOURCE

    1) Here is the reason why you left the keygen open, click on SELECT MAP PRODUCT and then click CUSTOME MAPSET
    2) Type 2046 as your FID (or MAPID)
    3) Press OK
    4) Press GENERATE
    5) Now you will have another long code down the bottom, copy that code to your clipboard or write it down.

PART B) INSERTING THE CODE INTO MAPSOURCE TO UNLOCK YOUR MAP
    1) Extract [Mapsource 2010.20.rar]
    2) Go to [Mapsource 2010.20] folder and open [CNAUNZNT2010_20_Update_ENU.msi] and install mapsource.
    3) Once installed, launch mapsource it will notify you that you have map but its locked.
    4) Press Unlock Maps
    5) Click on UNLOCK REGIONS tab
    6) Click ADD button on the right
    7) From the keygen, copy and paste the bottom generated code in the "Please enter an unlock code for the region"
    8) Press OK
    9) YOUR DONE, HAVE A BEER !

    Default Garmin on 2Din Chinese

    Hi Hollowman,

Appreciate all of your efforts but I can't even get Garmin to boot up on my chinese 2din (800 x 480) !

I Didn't understand the bit about activsync installed - but GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_50020w.exe installed without any probs to my SD card so I thought this was OK?

Didn't do steps 5 + 6 of your installation either (thought these were optional?)

But in Step 2 of ACTIVATION you say run the Garmin application from \Device\Garmin\WM\QuePPC.exe - I think it has an APP folder after Garmin and before VM (so I added this??)

Pointed the navigation to run QuePPC.exe - NO RESPONSE AT ALL - except windows hourglass ticks over 1 1/2 time then stops. - ANY IDEAS???

I'm sure that you can tell that I am a complete novice - but would like the challange of getting Garmin to go for 4WD'ing -I use IGO8 for street navi.

    thanks in advance

    Mike

    Hollowman,
For the life of me, I cannot find the "Additions.rar" and corresponding files you mention in step 5 of installation nor the D2003010B.JCV in step 6.
Any chance you can help me understand this part of the process please?

Scratch the above - those steps are part of the optional process and the important part is that the program is working well on my Dell Axim - Cheers m8

    Thanx heaps Hollowman,

Tried the Windows CE version form your tute (08/11/09),

It runs fine, just like you said. Got the ID number and created a SW.UNL file using the crack and loaded the maps etc.

Now it loads up fine, finds the satelites and gets the map up but then freezes and the screen locks.

    What have I done wrong.

    Thanks again for your help

Trying to run it on a Chinese double din Win CE 5.0 @800 x 480.

Problem seems to be licence related - I repeated the entire process with a fresh micro SD card - But this time the SD card only had an 8 digit number (not ten like your post says and like the previous card????).

Same problem - it boots up - able to select map - then it locks.

Am I correct in assuming that the generating of the crack numbers is done on the computer and the code then generated put into the SW.UNL file (this is how I have done it anyway) OR is it done on the device itself???

Thanks once again for your assistance.

nah you gota generate and do all the cracking on the pc... u running CE 4.2 or 5.0 on your device ? it may be an issue of not having enough memory or something ?

    Thanks for your efforts hollowman,

But I think its more key related, memory is not usually a problem (win CE 5.0) (I run IGO8 with full TTS and Polnav with no problems at all).

I've tried everything I can think of again todoay but still no joy.

Checked the SD card ID (from Garmin about and it was correct) went back to the fist 10 digit sd card I was using (as the new one had only 8 digits as reported by Garmin about)

Generated a new SW.UNL file etc etc and it still boots up fine and locks as soon as any button is pushed.

Doesn't give any licence errors at all though?

    Regards

    Mike

    Hey Hollowman,

Had a thought over lunch, maybe it is unlocked and working after all???

When I boot it up I hit the maps icon (knowing that there were no maps installed) and it says "no gps connected"

Previously I told it to skip connection of the GPS as it said in the directions - Does the program required a GPS signal in order to navigate round the general settings???

Also on closer inspaction I can see a little yellow Icon with a red strikeout in the top LH corner of the screen (the same - no gps message I assume).

So if the program does require it its just not there! and then the problem become how to navigate to connect the (non Garmin) GPS.

On the other hand if the program DOES allow general navigation without a gps signal then I'm back to square one.

Looking forward to your words of wisdom.

    Regards

    Mike

Aw well - it was worth a try

I think that I'll tos in ther towl now - to quote some aussie venacular - BTW love ya "tits on a bull", mate )

Maybe a new release will issue in time.

It wasn't that I'm wedded to Garmin - I just it was an easy easy to get off road topo's as I do a little 4wd ing.

I know of Oziexplorer but I though Garmin was a bit slicker and perhaps easier.

Do you have any other suggeations?

    c) Make sure you have activsync installed and working.

    6) Create a folder under Garmin, JVC and put D2003010B.JCV in there (DEVICEGARMINJVC)

    2) Run the Garmin application from DeviceGarminWMQuePPC.exe (not QueSP.exe because that's for smart phone).

    7) From the keygen, copy and paste the bottom generated code in the "Please enter an unlock code for the region"
    8) Press OK
    9) YOUR DONE, HAVE A BEER !

Well Hollowman - you're right it is better to walk away and let the dust settle. Success at last ! (well sort of anyway) - Garmin is unlocked and working BUT running at a very very slow speed. So you were right - it was not a licence issue at all.

Seems that I may have had a combination of a few problems making me think that the program was freezing. It does freeze but (usually) only if you enter commands too fast for it to catch up.

My initial install problem was that I had tow periods in the SW.. UNL by accident !!!! (a trap for young players?)

Also - when the program does run (at my resolution of 800 x 480) some of the screen navigation buttons are very compressed ) the ones near the edge) and you have to push the very very edge of the screen to get it to work - I think that I wasn't pushing close enough to the edge making me believe that the screen had locked.

So now I'm in the process of downloading the topos to see if its "kind of usable" but 2gig will take a while.

    I'll keep you posted.
