    Default trouble with win 7

Bought a key and downloaded the iso.

put it on to dvd asked for mscd001 driver?
thought it was a bad burn did it again on 1x speed.
found out I have 32 and download was 64.

downloaded 32 put it on dvd now I get screen of install win 7 but this time i get GUI still asking for drivers.

I pulled off side cover put in an old IDE dvd/cd still get the same GUI.

I'm starting to think that this ISO wont work on my HP.Pavilion
    Anybody got an idea?

First run windows upgrade adviser to check if your system will work with W7

What drivers is it asking for?

Are you doing an upgrade or clean install?

    What is the current OS?

Ran the upgrade advisor see link. Cant upload server busy will try later on but advisor says no worries see HP site for more info.
    I'm trying to upgrade?
    I haven't wiped the HHD
As for drivers WHO knows I just get a box asking for drivers? first time it said setup cancelled no MSCD001 this was all in DOS format,
so I jerry rigged an old IDE dvd/cd then I get a nice colour screen asking for drivers but doesnt say which ones.

    1. Are you sure your burn of the ISO is good? Any chance at burning it elsewhere at 1x using different media?

    2. There is also a chance that your ISO is bad.

    3. You could try a "flat install" ie copy the contents of the dvd to a temporary folder on your HD and then running setup.exe. Not certain if you can install both clean and upgrade this way. If you still have the same error then maybe your ISO is bad.

    4. If you have a 4Gb+ USB stick you could try installing from this instead of the DVD. See again if it has the same error, the chances are your ISO is bad.

    5. If you are still having problems or getting an error in a different spot then maybe you have AHCI mode selected in your BIOS for your sata drive and IDE or compatable may work instead.

    6. There is a huge thread with people having the same problem and the solutions are difficult and may not work ie extracting drivers from the Microsoft update site CABs. but picking the correct drivers can be difficult. See Kevin Hau MSFT, Moderator posts in the thread on how to extract the drivers.

    7. Even if you get past the drivers problem, there are reports it can take many hours... sometimes more than a day to do an upgrade, depending on what you have installed.

Thanks friend, I may have to PM roberts752 and see if anybody else is finding it so hard to get it to work. Judging from his feedback I'd say i'm one of the unlucky ones.

A friend of mine had a similar problem asking for drivers all the time. In the end he did the repair thing with the windows 7 disk. He then went to format but it was grayed out, he just installed it over xp and then deleted the old files thru system tools. It worked and running well.

Win 7 install can be a prick to install. I installed it on one pc and 2 lappys no problem. Then went to install it on my main machine and what a bastard it was. After 3 days of removing this, changing that, I finally upgraded the bios, and bang, on it went. I ran the Win 7 advisor before I attempted to install, and it told me it would work.

i really dont get why people try to use upgrade
even with a win 7 upgrage disk you still have the custom option to format and clean install
i have lost track of how many xp, win 7 installs i do
on rare occasions i have a bad dvd drive or hard drive problem
imho, back it up, boot to cd, split, format the partition whatever
its all done in 45 minutes
its more than likely all the leftover drivers, crap causing the dramas
