Default TomTom One V1 won't boot.

Having not used my TT one for a while I charged it up (long time) and went to boot it up. The initial 'red hands' screen came up & it played it's tune, then the next screen, then the 'red hands' screen returns & that's where it locks up. Off button also won't turn it off. Have to use the reset. I've tried the long reset, also holding down the on button, but still no good . But when it's hooked to the pc it stays on the light coloured screen & is accessible with windows explorer.
It also turns on & off without a problem. Any ideas ??
