    Default Help

I am a complete newbie to setting up a satellite.
But I usto have foxtel which I no longer have active.
But I now want to sing up with selectv but I've been told there is a tree in the way so I can't line the dish up with Pas8.
If I was able to get the foxtel sat should I be able to get Pas8?

Sorry if this question is completely stupid
    Thanks in advance

The tree in your way should NOT be a problem , unless its really really close , say about 1 foot ,
If you want Select Tv you need a new decorder , will not work with your old F@xtel box
I suggest you invest in a Dreambox 500s

    Well that sounds promising.
The tree is in the park out the back of my house, say about 10mtrs away.
But my dad told me he had someone look at it previously and that the tree was blocking the path or something.

I have a Humanx box which i've recently been using to get FTA satellite.
It has a slot in it for a smart card.

Why dont you move the dish where its line of sight is clear, away from the tree?

I think I might have to.
But it's not my house. and to get a clear line of sight I have to mount onto the garage at the rear of the house (I live in a town house)
Problem there is it'll be hard to get onto the garage roof and having a cable running from the garage into the lounge room is going to look ugly.
So I don't want to move it if I don't have to.

Wots your rough location and we can post a picture of the Clarke belt so that you can get a better idea

e.g The difference between Sydney and Perth is quite dramatic.

PS djsm is spruikin' complete rubbish ... apart from a fox box being useless

You can use connectors to extend the cable length, and avoid the new cable coming in through a window. Tis simple....

    Using dishpointer.com
    Got Latitued: -31.74 Longitude: 115.7
    Setting for Pas8
    Azimuth (magn): 68.1
    Elevation: 25.1
    LNB skew: 51.2

How do I know which point would be 0 degress on the LNB ?

If I had foxtel which I think is 10 degress difference from Pas8
Wouldn't you think I'd be able to get pas8? Or is that incorrect to assume

DON'T move anything till u see pictures on C1 with your new STB. Then and only then attempt to re-align the dish.

According to Gorbtrack from your place

    C1 is Az 58.3 El 33.2
    IS8 is Az 66.5 El 25.0

So to move from C1 to IS8 rotate the dish East 8.2 deg and down 8.2 deg (if my maths are correct).

The lnb skew will require adjustment. Approx 10 min of the clock face anti-clockwise looking into the dish. But this must be peaked as for the Az and El by using the level and quality screen on the stb.

As I thought, your around Perth to be running into trees.

But power up the Humax and see if you can see pictures on C1.

The Humax will do a stirling job (unless the power supply has failed).

Get out the ol' simple school protractor and do some sighting 8 deg to the right and 8 deg down (from behind the dish). The lnb arm will indicate very very roughly where the dish is actually pointing.

    Farmsky is teaching you well.

Just one extra tip if I can throw it in Farmsky?

When you confirm the Humax is working, and BEFORE you move the dish, take a texta up with you, and before you loosen or move it, mark the elevation bracket, and the dish position on the pole.

If you have trouble locating IS8, at least you will be able to get back to your original starting point, rather than pointing somewhere else.

    Good luck..

Think somebody has already stuffed around with it before I've gone to touch it.
I have 2 dishes setup side by side.
I've got a humax 5400z box and i've going into the Antenna Settings menu
Antenna alternative number one is on Optus B3
Antenna alternative number two is on Pas 8.

    I go into Signal Detection
    Says level 75% - Quality 0%

Some reason the box keeps making a clicking noise about every 3 - 5 seconds

I assume he had a switch to watch both ( disequc ), so one dish must be on IS8, and that is the one pointing more to the East.

Sounds like the caps are buggered in your power supply of the receiver.

You need to read this member's recent post for a fix..
