I'm a bit of a hawk on this issue, but I can't believe that. Shit, in a year you could finance a boat for the relos.
I would need some proof for that one.

The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

There were 52,469 refugee visa holders on Centrelink benefits as at June 30, 2009:

9881 were on the Disability Support Pension
5488 were on the aged pension
2096 were on Austudy
There were also 4324 Baby Bonus payments
There were 40,151 refugee visa holders on Centrelink benefits as at June 30, 2007:
15,750 were on Newstart
11,142 were on Youth Allowance
7350 were on Disability Support Pension
4410 were on Aged Pension
1499 were on Austudy
There were also 2796 Baby Bonus payments_
This is the age pension rate :
The amount they are claiming is correct IF you base it on a married couple. The " spouse " amount is incorrect , it is not called that and based on a couple is $42.30 each , not $56.10.
I cant find anything to do with payments to refugees.
I did not think it could be true but you never know with this mob....
That email has been doing the rounds for a long time now. They are being sent to stir up shit and cause more unrest between the locals and reffos.
The local Centrelink manager came out and refuted all of the refugee allowances.
If they are entitled to any benefits then they get the same as everyone else.

If they (refugees) never got nothing, you reckon that money gonna end up in your pocket? - NOT LIKELY
Don't concern yourself with what other people get paid.
The government pisses Taxes away on all sorts of bullshit.
Its always been like that.
How much money been shipped off to help them Indonesians what keep having disasters all the time?
And how do they repay our assistance?
By not invading Australia is how.
Don't make waves and you won't sink.
Just reading my post its a bit misleading. What I meant to say was the pension amount is correct. I cant say on the refugee amount because it doesnt state what benefit it refers to.
As xnavyman says, this sort of rot has been going round for ages.
My policy on these 'doing the rounds' emails is to disbelieve them on sight. So far I've been about 96% right - the vast majority are bullshit put about by wankers with some axe to grind.
I bet those numbers are tainted...
Something similar... Channel 9 used freedom of information to get some numbers from Centrelink and they came up that for Refugees "the Centrelink benefits have gone up nearly 40% to an estimated $628 million over two years."
But Mediawatch asked Centrelink and they have no idea how they came to that conclusion... some thoughts are that any refugee had a benefit was counted for the full term, if he had multiple periods of benefits they were each counted for the full term, anyway see if interested.
