Hi All, I have got a bloody pest of a virus/trojan. Spybot shows it as mediaplex. It says its removed it but it just keeps coming back. Does anyone know a real way to get rid of these bloody trojans apart from a reformat and reinstall of OS. I am getting sick of this rubbish all over the internet. I wish these bastards that create this crap would just grow up. Once it is sitting in the system my CPU shows as 50% and above usage always, even when i'm doing nothing, it then runs like a dog all of the time, freezing mouse etc. I'm over this crap!!

If you use malwarebytes, make sure you don't do what I did with my cracked xp pro and allowed it to remove my antiwpa app(forgot to uncheck it) that removed activation and would not allow access to starting up XP again. Had to put hard drive into another comp. as slave and get all my data then re-format. LOL
Hi montessa, you can also want to try this the following:
montessa if you have a budget maybe you should try using Bitdefender antivirus..this thing works really good for me despite that it's not free ..i could say that it's worth it. disabling system restore function is a big help before scanning as viruses really hide in system restore files.
check msconfig startup listings aswell as regedit for hkey_local_machine > software > microsoft > windows > current version > run AND run once. sometimes virus executables designed to reinstall virus upon bootup will hide there.
you may try
I used to use Malwarebytes but it became too unreliable to download updates.
I am trying Superantispyware free edition and it seems to have picked up some trojans that Avast missed.
I had the problem of my home page being constantly redirected to Mediaplex on both IE9 and Chrome. Mediaplex is adware rather than a virus and a scan using Mcfee did not even find it.
I solved the problem by simply deleting the browsing history - this worked for both IE9 and for Chrome.
Good Luck
I think he may have solved the problem since it was posted almost 2 years ago.
Thanks for the info anyway.
