i don't see the problem.. let the religious cooks get things banned.. everyone will just download directly.
The only people who will lose out are the govt (less GST) and local retailers. Good one, churchies!
If you weren't all aware, the Attorney-General's department has (finally) released the discussion paper for an R18+ classification for games and are accepting submissions on the issue.
I urge anyone interested in this issue (and any friends) to post a submission - especially considering that the nut-job-happyclapper-christers will mobile a lot of robots to submit against the proposal.
The discussion paper and submission template are here:
Submissions are open till the 28th of February 2010

Thanks for that, I might have a bit of a look and write up over the chrissie holidays. Read the brief on the GrowupAustralia website, but I'll have to have a look at the paper. Brief overview is rather interesting because it has an argument against which gets removed by the argument for (i.e parents cant control what kids have, but the machine have parental blocks).
Personally I only saw one argument against that isn't knocked down later in the paper.
Coding in C is like sending a 3 year old to do groceries. You gotta tell them exactly what you want or you'll end up with a cupboard full of pop tarts and pancake mix.
About time - lets hope we get some real progress
My form has been filled out and faxed.
Someone should sticky this thread until the February deadline.
Can someone please enlighten me as to what they are referring to here ????
How does a computer game classification have a detrimental effect on access to high level material in ..... ?? WTH ?????
"• An R 18+ for computer games would exacerbate problems associated with access to high level material in Indigenous communities and by other non English speaking people"

If you read the paragraph underneath its the hysteria thing going. There has been a problem on the aboriginal lands with illicit porno being taken in there and teenagers watching it. Its part of the problem and they are claiming that videogames in there may also cause the problem. Like most of the arguements against this rating its a pretty lame one. Better question is to ask how many consoles exist on the aboriginal lands?

Gday Rogue,
Long time no speak matey
I was saying that exact thing when discussing this issue at lunch today. If there were any consoles they wouldnt be staying still for long.
Im sure we would hear about it if there was one in this house and not in another. Unless the government supplies one 360 per house ??
My guess is there are none.
