Yep, 2 different systems - RealD and Dolby3D (see my post on previous page) - and the glasses used for each are completely incompatible with each other. I don't know of anybody using Dolby3D in Australia. Which 2 cinemas are you referring to, if you don't mind my asking?

Maybe there's little squirters on the glasses for that "sensaround" effect.

    @ slickstu

This is the theatres I always go to (Dolby3D)

    this is the other, (RealD)
I wont go to them its like 30km closer but, the screen is always out of focus the place is just dirty theres silver tape on the carpet holding it down

So whats the best 3D Dolby3D or RealD ?

I haven't seen Dolby3D so I can't really be objective but technology it's a bit '6 of one, half a dozen of the other' really.

It appears I'll have to eat my words. Just read in the paper today that 3DTV's and the corresponding content are due to launch in June this year! Shows you what I Know!

yeah I was watching a show, about , and this was the most talked about theme 3d TV. pfft i say.. sure it would be cool. but have to wait and see, i dare say expensive too

I think 3d is some what a gimmick to get people into theatres. having said that I have never seen it, so ...

people have commented that Avatar has had allot to do with this desire, but I'd stick with a good story in 2d than an over the top 3d experience with 10% content but then again, in a few years I may be a 3d fanboy and we might in fact have both the experience and content

i guess any new tech is good tech

You should certainly go and see one, Z1gg, the technology is pretty amazing. The immersion factor is such that it can make a bad movie look good - perhaps this explains Avatar's BO performance. To whit, I wonder if Avatar is many people's first experience of digital 3D?

Regarding 3DTV, I'm a bit disappointed that it seems to be utilising shutter glasses. That's a bit lo-tech!

Well I finally saw this last night but as a good quality dvdrip. (The 'vision' version is pretty good quality with almost no jerkiness) It was of course in 2D on a 37" screen so I was not going to be biased in my opinion of it by the 3D effects.
I really liked it. The story was OK but totally hollywood formula. The characters, scenery and effects, however, were great.
I do like sci-fi so maybe that helped also.
I should really get off my butt and go see it in the cinemas.
    Go see it!

If you don’t go see this movie in 3d, your doing yourself an injustice. People got past the crappy transformers 2 story that came out this year, and it still grossed over 400 million…

Get past the story, and enjoy it for what it is. One of the most beautifully made 3d cinematic works. Going to the movies shouldn’t be like watching a dvd in your living room, and this was one of the best movie experiences I’ve had in a long time.
