do you mean internal or external memory ? usually the map is on a SD card ?
im no tomtom expert actually, but maybe he only deleted the map ?
the tomtom guru would be downunder35m, ask him or wait til he replies to this thread.
go and search for "tomtom map 840" and see if you can install that

ok, well it seems that his only deleted the map, which can be replaced...
have a search around this forum for the new map..... like i said, im not a tomtom expert, but i think you have to do some patching of the navcore etc to get a downloaded map working again....

im not really the man to help you with this as i dont have a tomtom pna myself..

    sorry

either way, because you have files deleted, you going to have to upgrade it in order to replace the missing files etc....
this means your navcore, map, etc....

    start reading lol

    1. You should not post your serial number or device id
    2. If the device is completely erased the best way is to use TT Home to install the latest official Navcore.
Since that was not tried or mentionend in any of your posts I get a bad feeling here.
This feeling gets worse if I hear things like "Uhm my dad..kind of erased all of his internal memory didnt know how to backup haha" ...
Why? Because I heard similar "storys" at least 100 times since I started as a moderator....
In 90% of the cases the memory was not erased by accident ,but on purpose because it was a stolen device.
I admit that there are really a few "dummies" out there who really deleted something on the device
But think about it : never used TT Home ,"funny" story on how it happened and no idea what we are talking about here....

Don't take it offensive ,but first it was just the map ,now you need a Navcore too...
And being this an Australian forum I wonder why you would need a US/Can map?

All that makes no real sense to me or maybe I don't understand it.
But with a bit of reading you will find all you need in this forum - even a link for the 8.412 Navcore that is working.
The map is a different story as here are mostly Australian and New Zealand maps requested.
By the way : a 1GB card won't help you much if you need a US/Can map - one more reason to wonder what really happened.....

lol DU i didnt actually think outside the square here, but looks like you did.

but what i dont understand, why would anyone erase the memory if the unit is stolen, how is that going to protect anyone or cover any tracks....? (or maybe you could PM your response, if you know what i mean)

no..you guys just arnt reading what im writing properly since i did write my dad erased ALL of his internal memory i dont think the gps can run with just a map file..and if i stole it why would i need to do this? i would just use it..and my dad actually is a computer illiterate like i take control of his pc everyday to help him with something he was having problems i told him use his cd and backup his gps then erase it so obviously he didnt know what backup meant and he just erased it and now thats exactly why nothings left and no i dont know what navcore is or anything cuz i want is for him to be able to use his GPS again all i did want was for the map to work since we live in canada i was assuming i needed a usa_and_canada map....did read around the forums but most of it was talking about overwriting replacing and all this and im just trying to find this stuff around the forums on what im supposed to do and now you think i stole it and everything..is there a similar forum for usa_and_canada then?

well this GPS has 1gb internal i do believe and it came preloaded with usa_and_canada cuz it used to work but my dad gave me it to fix and i told him id try but i doubt it so obviously it will fit and ive googled around and found a usa map before but it just said it wasnt compatible with this device and it was under 900mb then again i have no idea where to put the file i read something about root so i just put the map file in root of the gps..but nothing :/ im not trying to hack/mod or w.e i just want it to work.
