    Default Updating firmware query.

    Hi All,

Has anyone tried to temporarily disconnect their chip prior to updating their firmware then update online (in order to play some of the newer games) then reconnect their chip. I have a friend with a D2 Pro that would like to update their firmware but has asked me whether this theory is possible ( IE.. To disconnect chip then reconnect after update has occured) Havent been down this road before so any help or previous experiences with doing this welcome.

    Thanks

    Umm,
Why would you want to disconnect the chip to just update?

Not required, D2pro is a drivechip it does nothing with the mainboard.

Update at will, but keep in mind updating to the latest 4.2 firmware will kill the region free ability of modchips.

    Hi Urban,

Thanks for your help mate, In previous posts on this same topic some weeks ago many were saying that when they had updated their console online it had crashed & bricked and some said they updated OK without a problem, Some said there console was softmodded and others hard modded and some never mentioned which way there console was modded and with what etc..So all this talk has as you can see left me looking for the truth.

Im in search of an answer or work around the problem while I am trying to sort the truth from the bullsh*t, If you understand what I mean, Thought that updating without the chip being "active" until after the update was installed would possibly be an option? Appears not... Given what your saying. If you can say for sure its safe with a D2 Pro (apart from losing region free) then OK, Just not keen on advising someone without knowing all the facts first.

    Thanks again.

You were probably reading about softmods...especially when a KOREAN region wii is softmodded as a US wii....the update loads US update & bricks the wii!

Thanks for your help LJay, So in theory all there is too lose by updating with the D2Pro installed is the region free ability right, Sorry for sounding like a dumba$$ but just wanted to be safe than sorry.

    Thanks again

Is this only done by using the homebrew channel all the time and using neogamma all the time? or is there a way now that you can use the disc channel like b4?
