Default Updating Quickfix GPS on Tomtom works 100%

    Hi,

My Tomtom was taking a long time to connect to the satellites.

I tried an update through Tomtom Home with no luck.

So this is what I did:-

    Open Tomtom Home

    Select MORE

    Select Manage my Go

    Select Items on device

    Select Quickfix Data

    Select Remove items from device

    Select OK

    Select Done

    Select Manage my Go

    Select items on computer

    Select Quickfix Data

    Select Remove items from computer

    Select OK

    Select Done

    Select More

    Select Update my Go

You should see the latest QuickGPSfix file

    Select update and install

    Select Done

    Now my Tomtom connects instantly.

    Enjoy

Would anyone know if this would work with a Start 10 with Navcore 9.430

If home is patched, you should be able to download mapshare and quickgpsfix from TT Home.

Slow startup and loading can also be caused by too many POI's selected.

Try the easy fix assuming you have a working backup:
Delete the content of the folder "ephem" and replace with the content of a working backup.
Connect to Home and do the update.
For a working sat fix you must have three files in that folder:
    ee_meta.txt
    ee_meta.tlv
    packedephemeris.ee
The first two are tiny and the last should have at least 40kb.
If any of them is missing or has a zero size it won't work.

    Please define "slow start".
Is it always the same or does it start faster if you turn it off and on straight away?

Check if you have a "suicide.dat" in the root of your device - the content is the time in seconds till the TT shuts off completly.
It is to save power in your battery.
You can change or delete it, after that your TT will go to sleep rather than off.
If I use my TT every day it finds the sat fast, but after a day or more it can take quite some time.
According to TT it is best to update the quick fix once a week.

Ah yes a couple of those files missing so copied 2 of them from the back up and then went to TT Home to update GPSQuickFix and it found them and did the update

No suicide.dat to be found, even used windows search to look in case I missed it

Than I'm afreiad it is just the way the NC works on your device.
TT has done quite some changes to the new NC's, making it harder to get them working for all unsupported devices.

While the 9.430 NC has many more features than my poor old basic Start 10 can use it does work "Very" well indeed and one of the main things I've noticed is the IQ routes seem to work better, right/left turn in 800m is now 1.2-1.3kms and the start up screen now can be different from the shut down screen

With the files back in for quickgpsfix it finds the satellites so quick after turning on it's great (it was never that fast even when brand new)..

If you have a delay in other commands as well or the map is moving more in a stop-and-go motion then check your POI's
It is best to have none selected from showing up on the map to improve speed and general response.
Every POI is checked first and if visible in the current view it will be drawn on the map, for 20 or more POI's even a 64mb device will slow down
