    Default Topfield 3000cip Power Supply Fix ? + Fan

    Hi All,
    My Toppy has died, Just wandering if anyone else has had experienced no power at all, when 240v plugged in ? Are there common caps what need replacing like the Humax? I'm also looking at installing a little 12v fan & would appreciate a picture and where to solder +ve & -ve. I'm sure a lot members may benefit from this thread..
    Cheers !

    I just purchased one a month or so ago that had a faulty power supply, it was working, but would loose signal after about 30 mins running. I replaced all the caps in the power supply (except for the big one, couldn't find a replacement), only cost a few dollars at Jaycar.

    Luckily, I still have the replacement cap list with Jaycar part numbers on the PC.

    2 x 47uf 63v - RE-6344
    1 x 100uf 35v - RE-6334
    2 x 100uf 25v - RE-6322
    4 x 100uf 16v - RE-6310
    2 x 1000uf 16v - RE-6316
    1 x 470uf 25v - RE-6326
    2 x 220uf 35v - RE-6336
    1 x 1uf 50v - RE-6032

    I also hooked a 50mm fan up to the power supply while I had it apart, I just connected the the fan to the +8v and GND lines on the powersupply output, they're labeled, so it's easy to find.

    I finally got some time today to replace the above mentioned caps, but still no luck. None of the caps looked bulged. I have measured the voltages while power and cable is connected to the motherboard:-

    gnd = gnd
    15v = 12.9v
    gnd = gnd
    3.3v = 3.3v
    gnd = gnd
    5v = 3.9v
    gnd = gnd
    8v = 5.6v
    gnd = gnd
    17v = 14.3v
    22v = 19.4v
    30v = 26.7v

    The power button at the front is a momentary switch, and tests ok behind its contacts, although I'm not sure where to test on the main board.

    Is the transformer stuffed due to low readings ? All tips appreciated .

    Unplug the cable to the main board and re check the voltages on the power supply to see if they come up closer to the listed value (some might need a load to come up, i dont recall with these units). It sounds like either a seperate issue on the psu or a problem on the motherboard loading the psu down.
    What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?

    Hi Cwispy, i unplugged the cable to the main board and below are the results. The voltage flickers with the cable plugged in as well.

    gnd = gnd
    15v = 13.7- 14.2 flickers
    gnd = gnd
    3.3v = 3.1v
    gnd = gnd
    5v = 5v
    gnd = gnd
    8v = 8.1v
    gnd = gnd
    17v = 14.8-15.4v flickers
    22v = 18.8-19.5v flickers
    30v = 24.6-25.4v flickers

    So there is not enough juice from the power supply..

    Default Faulty Power Supply

    I've searched Topfield forum and googled to get information/schematics but could only find one circuit diagram which did not specify the model it referred to. I've got a faulty TF 4000PVR and although there are no visible signs I'm sure the PS is at fault.

    Can anyone tell me if there's much difference in power supplies in these Topfield boxes?

    TF 4000PVR
    TF 3000CI
    TF 5000CIP

    If they're substantially the same I might see if I can find a used unit at a junk sale.

    I didn't know Jaycar had Humax PS, will have to take a look, sounds like an easy fix. Thanks.

    Thanks, thought so, I go to Jaycar nearly every week and never saw any Humax PS's.
    I was just now looking at both supplies and they are completely different!
    Will pull out all the electros and hopefully that will fix the problem.
    I feel stupid now (lol) Cheers.
