Default Curly Brass Vs Wet Sponge

    What are you guys using?

I was using a the curly brass for a while, then i was told my a electronics vetran that it wasn't as good for the tip, so i swapped over to a wet sponge. Now my sponge is tattered lol.

What are everyone else s thoughts on the matter?

    What are you guys using?

I use a wet sponge most of the time but use the curly brass once or twice a day to give it a better clean.
I don't have to pay for my tips myself so I am not as worried about damaging the tip too much.
It also depends on the quality of the tip and the coating on it as to how it stands up to the brass.
Another important thing is not to use a harsh flux

I voted wet sponge as I use that the most

I've used a wet sponge for many years now and find it to be best.

You're right - the sponges don't last forever, but they're less expensive than new tips.

I learnt a new method from someone not long ago.

Keep a stack of corrugated cardboard handy. Just jab the tip in and poke holes until clean.

It's a wet sponge for me. I like the swollen blister effect you get as you dribble water onto a dry sponge.

    1. Damp sponge only, if good.
    2. Damp sponge then flood with solder and flick excess onto floor, if not so good.
    3. Multicore tip cleaner/tinner TTCI, if downright dirty.

For the little work I do these days,it's the fingers.
I should however cut up a bit of sponge and (re)place in the old Weller.

    Cheers.

    wet sponge,

but if you are useing your iron constantly u should use brass.

also useing the wet sponge is suppose to ruin the heating element due to temprature fluctuations.
