Default Old wii + V1 Wiikey + NSMB (New Super Mario Bros.)

Hi, I haven’t played my wii in over a year (I still have to find the sensor bar lol)….but the allure of new super Mario brothers (NSMB) is just too great.
I have an original release wii console, with a v1 wiikey. What would be the easiest way to start playing new super Mario brothers? Should I update my console and soft mod it and use the homebrew methods?

I was planning on following , as the download (original) contained all the files required.

Should I update my wii dash to 4.2? From the the internet? Is it necessary, or can I run NSMB from homebrew with an earlier dash? When I was last into the wii scene, you could remove updates from the game/images.
As I understand it, the only thing I will lose by updating is the ability for my chip to play non-pal games?

Usually I like doing my own reading, but there is a lot of conflicting information…and well I just can’t be bothered atm…..

    Many thanks in advance, RHCP.

Hi mate, I personally am not a fan of softmods, with the constant updates required. My advice would be to remove the original modchip and install the new Drivekey with their updated firmware or get a Wasabi and do an update to the Wasabi using their new firmware update disk downloadable from the Wasabi website.

Thanks for the reply. I too prefer physical mods, and the original wiikey is starting to show it's age, but i rarely play the wii now and will probably sell it once i'm finished with NSMB. I don't want to wait a week or two and then have to install another chip.

    Cheers.

I upgraded my wii online (to 4.2E), and then followed the guide in my original post and was able to play without too much hassle. I used this , and played it from DVD using NeoGamma.

If you follow the guide, i strongly recommend you make a backup of your nand using bootmii as soon as possible...as the first time round something went a little wrong and my 'system files' became corrupted. Also, when installing the IOS 53/55/70 with sign hash check enabled it froze - disabling hash check seemed to help.

    Cheers, RHCP.
