Default Full backup of OS ?

I have a fresh install of Vista that is activated on a HP workstation that is currently working fine, if i wipe the HDD after backing up and installing other software as a trial is it possible to re install the full OS - i dont have a disc or serial key.

you mean it works fine now but you want to put win 7 on it but if it stuffs up you can put vista back?

    i think this
hard drive manager has a full backup\restore function
you will need sumthing like that or clonezilla? to make a full backup

I like to use "Hirens Boot disk" and do a GHOST of the HDD before attempting anything drastic!

freenas is not an operating system like vista.

Its just a front end to serve harddisk information onto a network.

This i already know, as it is working ok now if i dont like freenas at least i can return to its previous state - i'm only basically wanting a server but having a functional OS is handy so i dont bog my main pc with processing.

    Hello loanrangiel
You can achieve this in tow ways:
1- Ghost your VISTA to another HDD first, and then you will have a full back up of your OS, before you manage to crash your OS.
Also your HP PC should come with Recovery disks creator software.
2- Consider a VM program like VM machine, install it as any normal software, configure a virtual machine( any version of windows , or Linux) and have all your fun
    cheers

You wouldnt believe it but the people that put it out for hard garbage didnt leave the discs with it which is pretty rude, i mean who would throw out a dual Xeon 2.4gig cpu server with 3 gig ram, a dvd burner,80gig hdd and not leave the discs

image it up first (using whatever you like). install a new o/s, if things are not right/not to your liking, revert back to your previously saved image, and all will be sweet.

the nerve of some people not leaving EVERYTHING out for you and forcing you to do it!! hehehe

    Hi
yes you can do this dear install a cloning software like Norton Ghost. clone your partition and save the image file into other hard drive and after check your other operating system you can backup your all data with your operating sytem vista and with all the software. Norton will give you a cloning file of your currently working operating system.

    thanks
    Regards
