    Default spyware tools

with all these nasty little things getting around lately i thought i would post up the most useful nasty killers i can think of
most of these things are fake antivirus scanners that dont seem to do much else but annoy us, but are getting very hard to remove.
i often find its a good idea to check the registry or msconfig for startup programs before trying to remove nastys

atf cleaner (use 1st, removes crap, making scans quicker)

malwarebytes (update before using) (safe mode option?)

    combofix
BleepingComputer.com (read about it before using)

    rootkitbuster (new)

hijackthis (get brain surgeon to decifer log)

avg free (good as free gets)

I recommend you bro to add to your list -- Spybot SnD, Comodo antivirus which is a free but effective software and Bitdefender antivirus if you have a budget.

Hi all, I've been using a-squared free for a few years now just as a secondary scan. It might be worth having a look at. It does spyware and antivirus in the one package.

Just use Herins Boot CD 10.4

It's all there.... doesn't load, just uses virtual memory
    Can run in DOS mode

    Job done.

    But agreed Philquad,

I just use Spybot S&D / AVG free / Ccleaner / and maybe Malwarebytes or Adware if i fell like it.

    Stopzilla seems good too.
Not free but look around and it's not hard to find.

I tried Malwarebytes for a while but it wouldn't download the latest databases reliably so I gave up on it.

I use Comodo firewall, CCleaner, Superantispyware and Avast, all free and so far I feel most confident in Avast.

Probably the most useful tool I've found for manually hunting and killing. An actually useful process manager, lists not just all processes running, but what .exe's and .dll's each process is running, where to find etc. And it's free too!!

another program for removal of malware. Behavioural Scanning then if it detects and any suspect files it connects to a cloud scanning service to confirm then delete so you will need internet access to use it. It's a trial but is fully functioning.
