Good of you to come back and inform us you sorted out your trouble.
Even better would be if you would actually tell us what the problem exactly was, so we can all learn from it.

    Thumbs up

Hi... If your Dreambox tuner or "front-end" isn't working, they ARE repairable. They do have a habit of going "deaf" and especially if you've been making connections/disconnections to the DM500 without switching off the power first to EVERYTHING! It's cheaper to install a new tuner module than to buy a whole new PCB for the DM500S, I have now un-soldered and installed two of them. My present DM500S is one of those and it's working well. It takes about an hour and it requires some very fine and precise soldering skills. Do NOT attempt it unless you have a proper electronics soldering iron with a fine tip and one that is static electricity free. Just unsolder the underside row of 20 odd pins (?) on the right hand side of the tuner module (looking from the front of the unit behind the front panel) and carefully re-solder the new tuner module into place taking care to ensure ALL the solder is removed from the pins before extracting the damaged "deaf" tuner module otherwise you'll damage the PCB by yanking the PCB tracks away from the holes for the module pins. I'm in the ZL ham radio call book if you need to discuss it... Cheers, Robert ZL2ROB.

Hi Philip If you are absolutely SURE (!!) its a front end fault, we have replaced several tuner modules in the DM500s models. It's not a hard job but it does require about 45 mins of de-soldering and replacement and then re soldering with a very fine tip electronics soldering iron. Some excellent soldering and precision soldering skills are definitely required. New tuner modules are readily available on the internet (I don't sell them); just flash some plastic at them. Since it involves dealing with very Electro Static Discharge (ESD) sensitive CMOS IC chips, rigorous ESD precautions must be used. If you need any further assistance, free of charge, of course, the ham radio callsign ZL2ROB will find me or Skype "zl2rob"without the ". Always make sure you switch everything off when connecting or disconnecting to or from the DM500S, they have no ESD protection built into them and they go deaf . Kind regards, Robert
