    Default Rip gw1

I have been away from the forums for a long time, jumped in today to see what is going on. Most tragic and sad news. GW1 was always there to lend a hand and his posts always taken a gospel. RIP GW1 a true legend of this hobby & industry, you will be missed.

What a great loss... this man was absolutely fantastic.

About a month back we had some great conversations regarding the TRS80 and Super 80 computers. His emails were always full of great knowledge and in each communication he was always most helpful and informative. Always putting his full effort into his essay length replies (despite everything else that must have been going on his life) for this I cannot thank GW1 enough!

I never knew you in person, I didn't even know your real name. Never the less I cannot thank you enough for your assistance over the past few years, it was truely invaluable.

All the best to GW1, his family and friends.
    Cheers Grant, Love your Work!!

    Default Sad news indeed

I haven't visited the forum for a while and am saddened by the news of GW1 untimely passing.
As others have said he was an intellectual giant who was ALWAYS willing to help.
I learnt so much from his authoritative posts.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge GW1. You will be sorely missed.

Condolences to all his family and friends

    RIP.

    Default Respect

I didn't know "GW1" but Since the first time I logged onto Austech I respected him you only had to read one of he's many posts to understand that he was truly the most knowledgeable person here.

He's Indepth analysis of whatever subject he chose to comment on was just outstanding and in doing so provided so much help and direction to all Austech members be they a novice or expert in there field.

You had mine Mate and no doubting all members "RESPECT"

    Default My condolences

    Hi...

I didn't know GW1, but I did read his posts which are very educational. If I didn't understand something he would explain it to an amateur like me.

You will be sadly missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

A very young age to leave us.

    RIP my friend.

    Arty.

Here is a photo of Grant (GW1) that was on the back of his funeral service.

If it offends anyone I will remove it.

    ok guys

sorry i havent been on much lately but have been extremely busy with work since i got back from holidays but will get round to seeing chris over the next week as he has stuff ready for me get in place to help grants charity of choice

but in the meantime i have received a letter from grants parents ken and helen that arrived this week

and they and have sent a letter to pass on to all that have been so supportive

    RETURN THANKS

    GRANT KENNETH WALKER
    18 January 1968-17th january 2010.

we wish to convey our thanks to grant(aaeon.1) for notifying austech forum members when grant(GW1) sadly passed away suddenly and peacefully on january 17, following the diagnosos of incurable bowel cancer, only 28 days earlier

our sincere thanks to forum members who attended grants service in hobart and a special thanks to xnavyman, who reported back to members, and posted a photo of grant on the forum

we have been amazed and comforted by the esteem in which grant was held by so many members worldwide, and we thank you all for your tributes to grant, and for your sympathy and condolences offered to us.We would like you to know that we who loved him most also learned much from him ,in the way of loyalty, unconditional love and caring, generosity and courage.

it is comforting to know that grant found much pleasure in being part of a group who enjoyed helping each other in a common interest .

sincerest thanks from partner chris , parents ken and helen, and sisters robyn and stephanie and families

there was another letter addressed to me personally which i wanted to share as well

    it reads

    dear grant

we have been amazed at the response from the austech members since you sadly informed them of grants passing. we are glad that you did, as their kind comments have been a great source of comfort to us.we found your tribute to grant very moving ,and have read it many, many times.
he valued your friendship and knowledge and the time he spent with you

when grant took his granfathers huge satellite dish to hobart,to follow in his hobby, we had no idea that his accumulation of knowledge on the subject would bring him such respect and appreciation.
we imagine that his study, and contributions to the forum, were some compensation for being unable to continue in the computer workforce because of his health problems .
we would be grateful if you would post the note enclosed on the forum

    many thanks and kind regards
    helen and ken walker

and from me i say to helen and ken

at this sad time in your lives to think of others and to write the lovely letters that you did to me and all of us at austech shows us all where grant got his compassionate heart and caring personality that he had for everyone .
you did a great job with your son an instilled in him the sort of qualities that we could only wish we had half of and if we all had half of what that man had the world would be a much better and kinder place

all the best helen and ken

    grant(aaeon.1)
