It appears that the current update is 11Mb in size and the ESET update servers couldn't cope. Some have been able to get it to down load by hitting the update button like 100 times.
Another suggestion is to "please try clearing the update cache (either via the program setup, or by deleting the content of the "C:\Users\All Users\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\Updfiles" folder manually)" and try again.
Also version 3 is more likely to update than version 2.

Hello, Some users have experienced delays or were unable to download recent virus signature updates. Normally, ESET produces incremental updates to the virus signature database which are very compact in size, averaging about 10KB per day.
However, over time, these incremental updates become very large in size. ESET regularly releases a larger base signature update that aggregates these into one large update.
Unfortunately, a capacity issue on our server caused a delay in pushing out the latest large update package. ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3.0's updating mechanism is architected in such a way that users were able to download a much smaller update file; users of version 2.x were mostly impacted. Users with a valid NOD32 2.x license have always been able to upgrade to 3.x at no cost.
We anticipate that all users will have downloaded the update by now and ESET has made infrastructure changes to ensure that such capacity issues do not occur in the future.

Damn. Neither option work for me. I've clicked on "Clear Update Cache" and also cleaned out all files in the updfiles folder and still it won't update.
It's stuck on ver. 3334 of the updates.
Now what?
Keep hitting the update button.
Just tried it on another computer and it took about 15 tries before it took.

Just tried it... took a couple dozen tries! Now update 3345 (20080811) and about 11Mb in size. Wonder if the update will be automatic tomorrow???

If you still want the update and cant seem to get it automatically, there is a manual update on demonoid which is fine (3341). Mine doesn't go past that when I check it though!
Coding in C is like sending a 3 year old to do groceries. You gotta tell them exactly what you want or you'll end up with a cupboard full of pop tarts and pancake mix.
This a.m. it went to 3347 automatically so hopefully this was a one-off
now have updated automatically to 3348 this evening, missed 3347 though....
