Me Back,
My 10 year old suggested clearing system cache and that 'appears' to have soved it could it be lack off HDD free space? Or is it just co-incidence?
Brian
Wrong made it better not fixed, freed up some HDD space still no good.
Hi Guys,
I have an unmodded 360, that when playing 'Assasins Creed 2' keeps on freezing with the dirty disc error.
The disc has been replaced 2 days ago, is spotless scratch and finger print wise.
All the other games play with no problem, I CAREFULY cleaned the drive lens with no better resuilt.
Could it be a hardware issue, or should i just take the disc back again???
Cheers
Brian

Dirty disk errors are usually hardware related. However if it is only happening on one disk, you should probably check the disk in another console first, before getting your console looked at.
What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?

I would install the game to your hdd. That usually fixes the dirty disc problems on new looking discs. As it doesn't have to continually read the disc all the time when playing.
I had the same problem with an excellent looking Fallout 3. After installing to the hard drive. No more problems.
I've had one or two brand new disks that had the same issue with one of my particular consoles. It worked fine in the other consoles. From memory, it was an early model Lite-on drive.
I've also taken a few "scratched" disks to my local video shop and had them cleaned. Should only cost a few bucks, but sound's like it won't help your problem.
Ok,
Installing to the hard drive is working for now......... but in the longer term i would like to get the drive sorted, how can i identify if replacing the laser or the whole drive is needed??????????????
Brian
Yep,
Your laser is on the way out.
Replacing laser is possible, i prefer to replace the entire drive in the one go though.
If you are able to find the same type of drive, you can do a easy driveboard swap, so you don't need to worry about "flashing" the replacement drive.
If you can't find the same drive you will need to "spoof" and "flash" the replacement.
Id suggest tracking down the same drive you have now
Laser replacement is the cheapest option if u can be bothered stripping the drive down
