I'm not familiar with Xbox 360 modifications but is this firmware permanent (like upgrading a PS2) or can it be changed or even removed so the 360 has its original firmware, like buying straight from the shop?

Like Bratty pretty much has said, you can change the firmware back to stock if you so wish.

You can upgrade the firmware, downgrade the firmware or pretty much flash the drive to work connected to a PC for ripping/backup purposes.

The console is in perfect condition, so do not worry yourself about the RROD, it still has the 3 year RROD warranty also and can be sent back to MS (flash the drive back to stock) if need be. The console is new though, so unless you cramp this baby somewhere it cannot breath, I don't see you and this 360 having any issues.
