Making a full backup of your dreambox (incl. firmware)

    BACKUP your image:
    1) Telnet to your dreambox, login as root
    2) type in "cat /dev/mtd/3 > /var/tmp/backup.img"
    3) you can download this image to your pc via ftp

    thats it!

    RESTORE your image:
    1) login to dreambox via ftp as root
    2) upload the backup.img file from your pc to the dreambox in /var/tmp/
    3) telnet to the box as root
    4) type "cd /var/tmp"
    5) type "eraseall /dev/mtd/3 && cp backup.img /dev/mtd/3"
    6) type "reboot"

    thats it! everything restored

Hiya I had a backup of my dreambox using your method but for some reason I messed up the restore because I used /dev/mtb/1, (note that 1 is not a 3) I think I used that 1 for both the erase and the copy. So what the hell have I done???!?!?! and is there any way to fix this. My dreambox now just displays the splash screen on boot and goes nowhere with no way to telnet/ftp into it.
    Skip it?
Sell it on ebay as new and unboxed ?
Help of any kind is most welcome.

Does anyone know how to backup to .nfi or .img on a DM500HD (not a clone), have tried using the above steps, no good. Also tired using the latest FlashWizard Pro, and no go, Dreamup doesn't have the option to backup.

I've also installed the PLI plugin "NFIBackup" & when executing to backup it gets an error message "Box not found".

I've ran out of options, not sure what else to try.

    Cheers

NFIbackup seems to be old (oct 2009) and it does not know dm500hd.
Here is a thread on pli forum:
