    Default Satellite or Cable Tv??

    Hi guys,
I'm just new to the forum and i'm not too technical and was wondering if i can get any information regarding which way to go.
I'm looking at getting Foxtel but dont know the differences in having cable or satellite.
Does it mean that i can only view Foxtel on one TV in the lounge room or can i also view it in the bedroom?
So which one would be better?
    Your help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Don't worry mate, we're all new here

I'm looking at getting Foxtel but don't know the differences in having cable or satellite.

Essentially one is delivered to you by cable, overhead or underground, specific to your provider. Essentially this will be decided by your provider and will be dependent on the area you live in, however if you know the right words you can, on occasion, force them one way or the other.

Does it mean that i can only view Foxtel on one TV in the lounge room or can i also view it in the bedroom?

The Basic package from any provider allows for one STB (viewing in the lounge) but you can spend an extra, say, $20.00 per point per mth and have extra boxes installed - For instance (I dunno if these prices are correct) but the Platinum package may cost $100.00 per month for a single STB if you want 2 boxes it may end up costing you $120 per month.

So which one would be better?

Again, a lot of it depends on where you live. I live in a cabled area, but managed to convince my supplier that the picture on a large screen LCD looked like crap on cable, yet I had friends with Satellite and the picture appeared better, so they agreed to put in a Satellite installation.

    Hope this helps

Satellite is the way to go....the way to go...the wa-a-a-ay to go mate

Have a look at a dreambox 500s, then read about autoroll keys, newcs, cccam

It's all here for you to spend the next 12 months getting your head around it.

    Excellent!!
It appears that satellite is the way to go and i'm about to go and hit the search button and start with dreambox 500s.
Also are the satellite dishes that you find on ebay any good as i dont really want a monstrous dish on my roof.
    Thanks for the advice.

Again, it depends where you are, down here in Melbourne the genuine installers seem to get away with 65cm dishes. Just have a look at your neighbors or other people in the neighborhood and see what they are using. Personally I like the 90's.
Ebay is Ebay, as long as you purchase from a reputable seller you should be fine however there are installers around that will do the entire job (Installation, Dish, LNB, Cable, Plates, covers etc) cheaper than you can probably purchase the parts for.

This company is in Melbourne and personally the larger dish is my preference as they handle rain + cloud fade better.

    Default KU Band Dish

The problem for all KU Band Dish is the rain or showers on the Dish. wether it is 65 or 90cm, it is all the same. When it starts to shower, the picture just freezes n goes dead
no signal or searching for signals.
I have a 80cm, a90cm Toroidal KU Dsihes, but they r all the same.
Is there a reemdy for the rain or showers.
Can we have a larger gain output KU LNB, say over 70%+?
will the extra gain output cover the showers.rain intervals.
    Can someone help

If you live in a Foxtel cable area, then you will get cable, if not, satellite.

Foxtel will decide what you get... you usually have no choice.

All equipment, including the dish (if satellite of course) is included in the installation/connection charge, so you don't need to provide anything.

Try Satplus: They can freight to you if it's too far for you to travel.

    11/39 Cessna Drive, Caboolture, Queensland
    Phone: 5495 7674

They have 1.2m offset and 1.8m prime focus dishes.

The 1.8m prime focus has a polar mount, so you can add an actuator/positioner to motorise it.
