Default want GPS unit for dirt roads??

    G'day all

i been reading around for a long while researching what units support dirt rds & there seems to be stuff all , i did see those shonky maps for garmin units but dont think much of garmin ,have owned handheld garmin..

what i'm wanting is a decent unit for around $500 that supports dirt rds..

a m8 bought a top end garmin & discovered it had very little dirt rds mapped ,
he lives near redbank vic & driving around on dirt rds that have been there for 20+years it told him he was driving across paddocks or along rail lines so he returned it & went back to using melways.... so what options are there for these stand alone units or is it best to use a laptop running oziexplorer....

    thanks for any info...

My mate does dirt bike ridding and uses a PDA with OziExplorer. He buys rooftop maps on CD for the area he is ridding in at the time. It is all a matter of what maps are available for the area.
