    Default "Switch" service message.

    Hello All,

I recently had a strange message appear on my DM500s (gemini) which was titled "Switch" and had the message "Service could not be found".

What is this message and is it something I should be worried about and how can I stop it from being shown in the future?

The DM500 that it's on is currently hosting a card that another DM500 is connecting to.

    Thanks.
    Anubis.

This happens allot at this time of year when the signals on the channel / satellite you are watching are effected by the Solar Outage and the signal goes to 0 and back to normal again. Older images produce this message on the OSD and sometimes do not remove it when the signal comes back so you need to do it manually (remote>exit)

The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear

solar outage is very similar to the satellite falling from the sky
    except it stays there
everything signal disappears from every beam and transponder.

the difference between falling out of the sky and solar outage is ..
with solar outage the pics come back and nobody gets space junk in their backyard .. who said skylab ?

Is your other DM500 on your own lan? Do you have a dual lnb or a single lnb? Having a single lnb can cause this message if you watch something on two different polarities.

Then again it would be hard sharing a card over the network this way.

I was with you on the dual pol's (good point by the way) but lost you on your last sentence, what does this imply? Never put two dm boxes on the same lan?

What I meant is if you were using one dreambox as a server to share a card to another dreambox on your lan then it would be next to hopeless if you had a single lnb.

Why? This is how most of the world does it.

Look I'm just viewing it from a practical point of view.

Let's say if you had 2 dreams on your lan and they were both clients to an outside source and you had a single lnb.

If you wanted to watch only one dream for a while and have a flick around, it would make sense to switch the other one off right? Otherwise you could only view same pol channels which would be a pain in the arse.

Now if you had 2 dreams on your lan and one was a server. Then you wouldn't be able to switch the server off at all otherwise the client box wouldn't work. Now your stuck only being able to watch same pol channels.

If it were me I would just use a dual lnb. Particularly in the second scenario.

    Does that make any sense?
