    Default creating a website

    Hi all,

Just some questions about designing and publishing a website, a family member is starting a business and needs a website made. They have registered a domain name and have email working through this domain, and all the necessary details, (login, password, etc.) and I am wondering what I need to do to make one, like, what program should I use (recommendations?) and tips and tricks, etc. Any and all help appreciated, and thankyou in advance.

    Cheers!

you can use frontpage, dreamweaver ect to make from scratch
you can use 1 of many free templates to take out the design side of it
they may not allways suit what you want, and can be fiddly to change
    try wpm.rar
its a basic easy to work with program
    not many choices tho
i normally lay something out in photoshop, then slice it up & edit in frontpage
you will need hosting space also

I think we have plenty of hosting space, but with the kind of rellies I have, you can't be sure.

    Thanks for that Phill.

been awhile, but dreamweaver and fireworks(for image manipulations/creations)
If you feed ducks at a pond, chances are your bound to feed a goose or two without even knowing it.

I guess it depends on the type of site you are making.
Is it a 'brochure site' that will consist of a handful of pages and will never change?
Is it a 'news site' that will be updated constantly with the latest information from the business?
Is it a 'catalog site' that lists hundreds of products and needs the product lists updated regularly?
Is it an e-commerce site that will sell goods and process payments?

Answer yes to the first question and no to the last 3 and dreamweaver/frontpage is all you need.
Answer yes to any of the the last three questions and they won't cut it.

The website will probably be updated fortnightly or even monthly once it is up and running smoothly. Maybe i might be better off hiring someone to do it?

    Gday Big Mick,

Hiring someone can take the hassle out of building, designing, hosting & maintaining a website.

I do provide monthly website development, maintenance and hosting at $100/month and I can do all the work for you as per above.

Alternatively if you would like to do it yourself, i.e. with relation to ongoing maintenance & changes, then I can set you up with a website that you can modify quite easily...(A CMS - Content Management System).

This gives you a rich text editor interface quite similar to the message text box that you see when you reply or write threads in Austech, but more advanced giving you the ability to upload images and flash quite easily.

I could provide this for you with 2 complete pages for $1000.

    Good Luck with your website!

    Esky.

Any website for a business shoud relay on a graphical concept, shoud be W3C valid and SEO friendly. There are many issuse and maybe a professional webdesign can help you.
