That's cause its a 250mhz cpu with no grunt.
Speed is normal.
I was transfering some of my recorded movies onto the internal hdd of my new DM7020 via ethernet using FTP.
I was only able to transfer at speeds of about 2.6mb/s. This took a fair while to transfer gigabytes of data.
Is this normal? Can you get faster speeds?
Please let me know what speeds you get.
I have tried Dreambox control center and flashFXP
Any help and info would be great

Dream Multimedia fixed the network problem in the new 7020 boxes by replacing two capacitors for two other ones with more capacity.
THX to Sat-Turner, who found this out on the Dream forum on which capacitors this deals...
the C5906 and C5907, two SMD capacitors nearby the ASIX chip.
Refering to the datasheet it are components who buffer the 3.3 volt for the transceiver and PLL. Refering to the datasheet they should have a value of 4u7 but the ones who DMM used in the past have a much to low value.
info from
I don't think it's a network problem ...
z80 is correct - there is a considerable overhead in file transfer using FTP (try doing a file copy on a win box accross a network by dragging a file from a network share window to your desktop - you will notice a big difference in speed as opposed to simply a 'raw' copy process) ... especially on the Dream CPU ... you will find that the CPU is dong lots of work in mainaining the network connections (drivers and FTP client) as well as bit bashing the data to your PC.
I once had a 500M media drive - virtually full of content and needed to transfer to my mdia appliance ...
After starting a net transfer - I got a reported time of over 20 hours - so I simply (ok - not so simply) removed the drive and attached it to an external USB interface - then plugged this into the USB port on the PC - I was able do the complete file copy in a fraction of the time ...
Since this was a once only operation it was worth it!
Hope the above info is useful
Sorry to drag up an old thread but in case you were still havin probs thought I'd share that I used a similar setup a few months back and I was getting around 10mb/s so something is wrong your end. I'm no techie so can't help your problem but can say that something can definitely be done to help as it is possible to get more speed
