    Question What satellite?

I'm new to this game. I just set up a 80cm Ku band dish and am watching Optus D1 for my ABC and SBS channels. I'm on the coast 15km from a translator but I can't get a decent terestial picture even with masthead amp and STBox because I'm below a ridge hence the dish.

    I'd like to get a bit of commercial TV 7, 9, 10

Whats the best way to get them for free? I don't want to have to pay someone to do a site survey to get round the government BS. I know my site is crook, I don't want to put up a 100ft tower.

should I go to another satellite, but which one for the free stuff.

About the terminology, TP I gues is the transponder number what is PID etc. what does it all mean

Your best long term solution will be to buy an Optus Aurora card ~$100 one off fee, activate it and get everything you are after plus some more.
The satellite you need is Optus C1 and it can be easily found.
Make sure your decoder has a provision for a smart card.

I have an ligitimate Aurora card and it is activated, I did it on the phone, but I could not get ABC and SBS on C1 because aparently I did not have the 80% signal strength on the tune channel so I went to D1 where I can get ABC and SBS but not much else. If I get ABC & SBS does that mean my card is activated and can now be used on D1 and C1? I would like to get Al jasera, maybe imparja and or central 7 or whatever. I may have to have another look at C1 later as it seems to be where people are. I thought D1 replaces C1 maybe it was B3 that got replaced

If I keep tuned in to this forum I'll get the hang of it, Thanks Bob

    Yes Bob, do that .
You should be able to receive ABC and SBS. This 80% statement I don't quite understand. Possibly you were fed with some sort of BS.
You should be able to finetune your setup and get everything that comes in a package for you. Can you at least see these channels in a list encrypted?
I am not an expert on the Aurora package, maybe I am missleading you somewhere as well, then other members will correct me.
If you want to watch D1 channels as well as Aurora channels you might want to consider two LNBs installed to your dish. This way you will get everything you were after.

P.S. D1 channels are FTA and do not require a sub.

Shame he doesn't know anyone sat savvy -

I'd be installing a 3-way LNB holder, the required switch, and then loading channels from Optus D1, C1 and D2 (D2 = the old B3).

In that way he'd get D1's free to air ABC/SBS from each state, C1's AlJazeera English, plus rivetting TVSN and EXPO. And with D2, Russia Today and Press TV - the two primary english language channels and a host of Praise The Lord/Allah-blessings etc/Buddhist etc type channels.

Heck, was watching on ABC D2 feed channels NASA TV yesterday.

IF chap wanted, he could subscribe to SelecTV in IS8 etc.

NB - IF Silver Foxes dish is actually aligned to D1 AND is seeing ABC/SBS,- then per above para - your Aurora card is NOT ACTIVATED. To activate this card, your dish, OR one of the LNB's (if you go for two-way or three-way LNB holder on the one dish *is good*) - needs to be set for C1!

Last night one of the ABC feeds was showing NASA TV. It's off now and it isn't the normal programming.

    Silver Fox.
I was given the same line of 80%BS from optus Aurora.
I later found that my STB would not update their card.
    It was a S*lec*V AF3030-IR Box.
    Now using a Dreambox 500s.
S*lec*V, Aurora, FTA on I8,D1,C1 andD2/B3 no card changing.
