Quick question - Has your setup been working ok in the past ?
If so what has changed in the setup ... it can be a pointer to your problem
Hi everyone.
I have my DM500s connected via wifi to my blue in Relook 400.
for whatever reason its started to freeze the pics more than i have really ever seen to the point that you cant watch anything..
Is there a cache that can be deleted or something to assist the pics..

Setup was fine in the past.
nothing changed in the setup until I have locked wifi on router to "g" to try to keep constant signal without changing etc between b & g , even though its the only unit set to use wifi atm.
I went on a scrouge & eventually found a piece of cat5 about 8-10 mtrs long to test the DM via cable as apposed to wifi to see if my problem is a severly degraded wireless signal causing the problem.
will see how it goes ..& take the next step after that.

b will give you a better network, the slower the speed the better the distance etc.
If your connection drops to b from g it happens for a good reason, lock it to b if anything.
Ensure none of your kids are thumbing through the channels rapidly on the other side.
Consider replacing the DM500 power supply brick as well ( +12VDC @ 2A )
They can cause all sorts of strange behavior when they start getting a bit long in the tooth

[The Dm's I have are i think less than 12 months old , so would hope they arent doing weird stuff just yet..[/QUOTE]
I've bought my DM500 clone and it started to freeze from the start.
Opened the power supply and changed the capacitors and the problem was solved.
So, try with another P.S.

OK guys.
an update.. ITS my wifi as its working Perfect on a cat5 cable
It seems that my wifi via the router isnt as good as it was before.."Its Routed"..
still works , but doesnt have the strenght / speed or whatever to go through 1 wall to run the DM to stop the freezing issue.
My issue now , is, do I replace yet another wifi router etc or get a bigger antenne to connect to the router & try that !!!

run the cat5

Yes.
You could also try re-locating the router - the fewer walls and other sources of signal attenuation between it & the receiver the better. Another thing to try is changing the channel on the router - there may be others on the same channel as yours which are interfering.
Go to your local computer store and get another antenna that has a lead. Then you will able to stick it higher. With wireless higher the antenna the better and if you need to you can buy a repeater (but i don't think you need to)
Higher isn't necessarily better. But being able to move it around is.
It sounds as though something has changed in *fergs* environment though. It could be something new in the path between transmitter or receiver, or a new transmitter in the neighbourhood interfering with his signal. In either case, a new stronger antenna will help.
change wireless channel go through the entire range and test the connection
this may help as interference on certain channels may be causing the slowdowns for example neighbours wireless on channel 3 and your on channel 3 , go up or down 2 channels
try moving the wireless devices around slightly
telnet into the dm500 or relook and ping the other box, see the ping times, notice the ping times increase / decrease as you move wireless devices around
good luck - wireless is a pain at times -
whats the distance between the two devices ? how many brick walls in the way ? double brick ?

I will run through the channels again & see who is using what , but I'm sure no one was withing 3 channels of me before..
Distance is approx 6 mtrs MAX between router & AP/Dreambox , as for walls.. its 2 internal wall (2nd has a doorway in it as well so reaslly 1 1/2 )
I cant "move" the router round to much as thats where the phone point is atm and a repeater is certainly not needed or required..
BUT maybe a different "antenna" will give a stronger signal..

Try one of these.
look around there might b cheaper

another factor to consider is some laptops and netbooks give less power to their wifi port when running on battery as opposed to have power plugged in.
so wireless performance with 240 plugged in can be improved.
(*when all else has failed consider the obscure or non-obvious *)

NO netbooks / laptops involved..

just spend the time and effort to run a cable through your roof/cavities. you will have guaranteed better performance regardless of whether you get your wifi improved or not. Sounds like your spending a lot of time trying to get wifi working when you could have run a cable in a fraction of the time
