Default WTB: help with jtag (melbourne)

hey hey, i started to jtag my falcon xbox but that pesky DB1F1/FT1U2 point is proving more than a match for my soldering skills

i don't want to risk burning off all the alternate points so wondering if anybody in melbourne would be able to solder that point for me, not for free of course

i'm based in inner east melbourne
    pm me please

    thanks,
    meta

That point is a bitch, I did exactly the same as you but still decided to continue and try and solder onto an alternative location, I did it and it worked great.

Tips; prepare wire and point as normal and hot glue gun the wire in place, not the contacts obviously, just the wire, this will stop it moving and ripping off the solderpad.

I'd offer to help but being in Brissie might cause a few problems :-)

    thanks for the replies!
urban_s0uljah, what is this bt6w you speak of? another point? i searched for boxddr's alt points but found nothing - is that the alternate point on the back next to FT2P3 (near southbridge)?

maybe you guys can have a good laugh at the mess i've made of DB1F1 -
    its definitely fried yeah?

what would happen if i were to turn the xbox on with a half finished jtag? maybe its best to check i have not completley borked it before spending more time/money on it

    Ain't that the truth lol.

Being the brainiac that i am, i chose to solder that point first (after not soldering for 2 years). It didn't take long to stuff that one. I then decided to go get a file and reshape my tip so that it was actually evenly hot and pointed.

I then soldered first or second go to the FT1U2 alternate point...at which point i got even smarter and gently tugged on the wire resulting in ripping the trace from the board - at least the join didn't fail . Ended up soldering to the other spot which branches near FT1U2.

I personally found soldering to the underside of all the points much easier. Especially when not using flux.

Love to know how many boards have been sent to console heaven by amateurs like us lol

well, i think i have all the soldering done, YAYYY

have installed the LPT cable and the jtag wires (thanks RHCP, that branch point seemed to work)

now gotta find a friend who still has a desktop with lpt port :/

is there any way before flashing NAND to check that all jtag connections are OK?
now my xbox boots into factory dash as usual (is this normal?)

be super duper careful with LPT ports, they are dodgy as can be.

Id try get your hands on a omilex lpc unit or wait for maximus to release his NAND flasher and do it via USB.

    What guide are you following?

In that guide you flash the majority of the nand from the xbox using xellous. It also instructs you to do multiple dumps of the config-bytes/nand-extracts and compare them for errors (so you should have valid config bytes & key vault keys). It also has a section where you open up a dump and look for the CB version. If all that goes to plan, then you should be 'write' to flash.

    Cheers.

thanks RHCP, i followed that excellent guide with no problems and now i have XRBeboot and xexloaded installed
not too sure where to go from here tho, i have not got any games yet haha

do people generally keep the default dashboard or is there a better homebrew dash?
some sort of list of recommended/essential homebrew would be awesome

before i reassemble the 360, should i flash the DVD firmware or is that obsolete on an XBReboot console?
as far as i know the box is not banned and hope to keep it that way, so i will not be plugging it into the net until i know more

    thanks
