Default 12 v dome cam needs more volts?

Has any tech had this problem?

customer has 3 domes cameras not working and all on same 12V power supply. (install was working previously)

Check power supply, spot on 12V dc at camera ends.

Try another power supply just in case,, still no go.

take suspect cameras back to work shop. set up on a variable power supply
cameras burst into life at 15V DC. And continue working at 24 v DC

Cameras are DC-1480P Color DSP Vari focal Dome Camera.

Did you check the voltage at the camera with the camera(s) still connected.

Removing them also removes the cause of a potential voltage drop due to insufficient cable size.

Based on 3 cameras at 2 watts per the (160mA each) and a common fig8 cable of 24/0.20 LEC2242 and a 30mtr cable run will result in a 0.33 volt drop, which is outside of the cameras range.

This is a good reason for the use of 24v ac cameras as a 0.33 volt drop is more tolerable.

or not enough current to run the cameras

if cameras are say 500mA each and only 1A power supply theres 1.5A used already.....

you will still read 12V because the voltage is in Parrellell....

When some powersupplies start to fail they show 12volts with no load, as the load increases the voltage drops, but i now see you already tried a new powersupply.

This is not correct. Insufficient power supply current will result in the voltage dropping as the current increases unless you have a well designed PSU, which will disconnect the power on overload via a polly fuse or other protection device.

forget the voltage check the current the 3 camera's are pulling from the power supply, then check them one at a time, that will answer your questions.
