    Default Pennytel porting

    Hey guys,

Thinking of switching to pennytel and cancelling my line rental. However I was hoping I'd be able to port my existing optus landline number. Has anyone done this? I've been calling their customer service number and keep getting an answering machine.

Also my setup is I've got is optus cable with a Netgear CVG824G router. From my understanding I should just be able to get a ATA phone adapter and be able to plug in my existing cordless handsets and should be ok to go. Is this correct?

I don't believe you can port your landline to PT.

Yes to the ATA. A good device is the Minitar MVA11A which you can purchase on line from JMG Technology for around $80 delivered.

There are reports that the cheap Sipura PAP2's on eBay from HK can be of dubious quality.

You will still need your phone line unless you can get naked ADSL

You could get an Billion 7301VGP ADSL2+, Wireless with VoIP from JMG Technology for 97bucks and plug your phone into the back of that

in theory, you could, do a divertion , on the house line, to the public number that penny tel assign you , then cancel your land line as your on optus, the issue is. you paying for divertion, your divert may not stay on the line, and someone may be assigned your new number.

You could just get the pennytel account , organise with your carriage to put a preannouncement on the line stating your new number is XXXXX for say 3 months.

Any one who doesnt know by then will contact your mobile.
