Default aanet offer new 8 Mbit plans

just stumbled across an 8 Mbit plan offered by aaNet

since i cant get ADSL2 its the next best thing

i have just migrated across (change next week) so hopefully it is ok.
but being 4.8km from the exchange with 10db S/N and 63.5db attenuation i probably will only get about 3mbit. (if i am lucky)

nearly doubled my download capacity for $10 less that i was paying before
    27g 1500 to 50g 8000 for $54.90 and has static ip

may not be the cheapest plan but never really had to many issues with aaNet to worry me

however if you do decide to go with them, can you stick AANET2371 into the referal spot on the application form

I would rate them as the worst ISP I have ever been with. Have you ever spoken to their third world call centre on the budget VOIP line with crackles and echoes ?

As soon as I churned away from Aanet every internet related problem I had disappeared.
But it is a good priced plan and hopefully forces a few other ISP's to compete.

Hmmm the unhelpful desk...... well i have always hoped whoever i was with i didnt need any.

i did have one pathetic "help desk saga" however a quick request on their forums got me a contact at Eftel, who fixed my issue the next day.
it was a technical issue that was related to reverse DNS.
I knew how to solve the problem, it was just finding the right people to address it.

    Been with them since 2004.

iinet has had a 8Mg ADSL1 connection for the past 2 years

I was in the same situation as you, couldn't get ADSL2... the iinet 8mg connection was getting consistent speeds that my friends on ADSL2 were getting.
The only issue was price, as it was more $$$ than an ADSL2 connect... go figure.

the aanet help desk was very helpful when I asked the question as to why the price difference between the two and the answer is that with ADSL1 they are renting the equioment off of the wholeseller (Tel$tra), but when they have ADSL2+, they install their own equioment in the exchange and no longer have the overhead of 3rd party equipment.

I'm still with aanet after almost 6yrs. Generally ok with a few mail server issues over the years.

I wouldnt be surprised to see them go under shortly. Its hard to see some of their current plans being too profitable. They lost 5.7 million last year with a reported further 20 million in losses to be written off. Thats on 40 million.

But more than likely they would just appear under another name if they sink , like most companies do. Fortunately it you are a customer you have nothing to lose , investors might though. Not that shares are worth much

sometimes "losses" arent what they seem.
eg writing off new servers and data centre stuff etc.
get to claim the expense and still have the equip.

funny thing is that eftel have adsl2 at my exchange but aaNet dont have access to eftel's equip and eftel own aanet???

re call centers, i always ask where they are, and of course they are in melbourne
so i just ask "how the wheather is? "as they have no idea, i then call them liars and cheats...... boy does that get them fred up.
btw thats usually to those who ring all day long trying to sell me ink cartriges or some other crap, not when i am after help
