    Someone told me

Apparently it's a genuine Channel 9 FTA HD 3d Terrestial Broadcast
" broadcasts will initially be limited to Sydney on temporarily allocated spectrum"

"A trial broadcast licence using spectrum temporarily allocated by the Federal Government will be established to allow consumers, retailers and manufacturers to experience live sporting events and other material. Nine is working with the Australian Communications and Media Authority and transmission service providers to extend this broadcast beyond Sydney into other capital city markets."

Official news report confirming 3d event

    Origin to kick-off 3D revolution

    * By Holly Byrnes

STATE of Origin will burst into NSW loungerooms like never before, with Channel 9 to broadcast the league blockbuster in 3D.

The world-first free-to-air telecast in Sydney on May 26 will beat plans by FIFA to utilise the 3D revolution during the World Cup.

The broadcast will be limited to NSW viewers with 3D TV sets.

Nine and sponsor Harvey Norman fast-tracked the technology for the game's Origin showcase, with the speed and skill of players to loom large using two camera shots "converged" to add dimension.

Extra spectrum needed for the 3D broadcast was granted by Federal Communications Minister Stephen Conroy, who welcomed the initiative as evidence of the advantages of digital technology.

Nine CEO David Gyngell said while television had always been addictive, "this is my new drug". "Nine needs to be in at the ground floor of this new technology and we are. It will happen in a rush," Mr Gyngell said.

The stereovision has already been trialled overseas; the recent US Masters golf was captured in 3D for a cable network and UK fans sampled a Premier League match.

Harvey Norman director Katie Page said she was expecting the green and red 3D goggle technology of old when she was invited to preview a display by Samsung in South Korea last October.

"It was just amazing, extraordinary. Of course it will obviously have an effect on [video] gaming and movies like Avatar and Alice In Wonderland, but it's the live sport you've got to see. The players are coming right at you," she said.

While the retailer confirmed it had sold 750 units of its recent 3D shipment since they went on sale last week, it will open its doors on Origin night to enable customers to experience the 3D action .

Prices for the 3D screens start at $2500. "Bespoke" glasses are already on the drawing board at major fashion houses such as Gucci.

Nine has teamed with a US 3D specialist and 17 technicians will be flown in especially to oversee the first live Origin telecast.

The two-camera rigs will also add more traffic to the sideline, as separate camera crews continue to capture the 2D broadcast.

If it's only shown in Sydney May 26th, can some kind soul record some of it
digitally for me, and PM me to arrange sending it to me on disc, I'll
    compensate you for your efforts.
    Cheers

So do we poor Regionaly and 3D TV set deprived get to see it on 80 HD anyway or only on 8 SD?

For the Metro users (Sutherland,Penrith/Katoomba,Horsby areas), 80 is our Rural/Regional channel for 9/WIN HD broadcast, 8 is the SD Illogical logical channel.

It is expected to air on LCN 93 in Sydney with temporarily allocated spectrum from the Government. Whether WIN/NBN viewers will get it as well I don't know at present. It may happen, but don't get your hopes up.
