Default Xbox 360 Won't Play games

I have a 360 that will not play games but comes up and says
this is a xbox 360 game disc please put in your xbox 360
And the same thing for a old xbox game
But It will play a DVD
    Has anyone come across this?
Or is just some settings as I can't use the controller, as this is not working also

    cheers

this is why mate! You NEED to insert the old key into the new drive for it to read games, it will read music and dvds only as it is!

Depends on the type of drive and if you are comfortable doing it.

I can do for you, as too can other modders here. Just stick to the well known ones though.

sounds like you need to resync the controller!!!

    Cheers
    Mick

Default DVD Drive won't play games

I have the same problem as the original poster/post.

I bought the Xbox used. Everything looked normal at first until I tried to play a game. At which point a white screen comes up with instructions to insert the cd into the drive.

I can however play a dvd movie.

I suspect the dvd drive has been switch but the keys were not flashed to the old one. If this is the case, can someone tell me how to do this and if I need any special hardware/tool and/or software? Also, if I need to flash the old keys in then how would I know what the keys are if I don't know what the keys are? (sorry if that's a dumb question).

Thanks for whatever help anyone can provide.

So, it is a code thing? I have no problem paying someone knowledgeable to fix it as long as it is an "expertise" issue. But if it can be fixed by cleaning a component or something basic then I wouldn't mind doing that myself.

At this point in time, it would be nice to know what exactly is the problem before deciding what to do.

Kind of like a car, if the engine is acting funny, I try and make sure I know what exactly it is (whether I can do it myself or require a mechanic). If it does require a mechanic then atleast I the mechanic and I are on the same page.

could try replacing the laser on dvd-rom .. personally I would get replacement ...ya need key from old dvd-rom ...to spoof it to new dvdrom ... but if doing laser replacement... no need for keys..spoofing ... just replace laser and install back into x360 and pray it works ..

at guess sounds like the laser is on it way out .. not expert here in x360 stuff ..

Has this unit been opened up before? Check to see if the seal looks like its been tampered with. Might still have its original drive in it.

I have had that message appear on my 360. Not modded in anyway either. It recently suffered from the dreaded 3rrod but restarted the console and it worked fine. Now it continually comes up with a message saying the disc is dirty or damaged, even though the disc is fine.

It still under warranty after being repaired previously, but im waiting until i head back to work before i send it in for repairs.

it means the laser is ****ed, replace the drive asap or the console will die. unless you have the keys.

I hope you paid by paypal and start a dispute about it with the seller through paypal.

otherwise, break his legs. smash his hands for doing this.

Actually this type of violence can not be condoned at all. it will not solve your problem. contact the seller and ask for the original drive or the drive key, if can't give to you, then get refund, if wont refund, then remove his eye balls with a fork, put them in a blender and make him drink it. this can be condoned.

I think some ppl can remove the chip on the mb and extract the key. more expensive than flashing a drive. maybe not worth it with arcade packs under $250 now days
Haven't killed anyone who didn't deserve it.

Really the 4 that were killed deserved it.
