    Default Public Gamma and 12volts

anyone put 12volts to a gamma, i had old pheonix and wasnt reading gamma at 9v, had been 9v for years with gold, silver, ird-1 mosc no probs, gamma wouldn't read in gup, so up it to 12v, gamma read then tried again, and no atr, played a little more and read again, now nothing, no ATR, i posted in the loggers forum, but sinces its the card thats dead, hoping for some help from here, one and only card now

12 volts into a 3volt card? hmm , sounds like the pull down resistors fried after the second atempt and pasted the full voltage though to the card in the end. I dont like your chances ot getting an ATR back? I would add a 5 volt regulator and a diode to the input of your reader or at least use a 5v regulated plug pac , not one of those cheap ones from Dick Smiths or jaycar.

pheonix still reads gold, silver, old fox, galaxy ect, got the pheonix around the same time i got a Elvis (multi programmer) 7-8 years ago (maybe more) that worked on 9v so i used the same power pack on 9v for pheonix back then never had a prob

The Elvis ran 9v but programmed the pic with 13v, (from thier website) not sure about the eeprom on gold ect, so i was under the impression 13v for program and 5v for reading

I ran a 12v power into my jaycar built programmer and have no worries with gamma. But I think I will hunt around for 9v now

But your jaycar has a 5v regulator! That's the difference.

    To slow again,
Been running a 16v plugpack for years on the Jaycar, no probs.
Read the spec sheet that comes with the kit. it expalins how its all done.
