I've just returned from a trip to the U.K. and Germany. It seems that they are only getting 850 KwH for each kilowatt of solar panels installed in that part of the world. In Australia we are getting 1,200 - 1,400 KwH for the same number of panels. Germany installed 6 GW this year which represents more than 60 x the number of Australian installations and yet their population is only 3 x ours....

By the way I have a lot of experience with Sopray panels and I've even visited their factory. The factory is very impressive and exports to Germany, Spain, the U.S and of course Australia. The latest 185 watt panels are rated to 187 watts and they are now manufacturing their own wafers. I'm aware that more than 5,000 systems have been installed with these panels in Australia and output appears to be consistent with the ratings. I'm not aware of any major issues.

Does anyone know how much the bi-directional meter costs in total?
Also what are peoples views on the Suntech panels from Sunsavers?

    Cheers

    Hi Lee,

I'd be interested to know how you managed to get them down to this price as I am wanting the same system installed. I am in Brisbane and spoke to eco-k on the phone. They seemed pretty firm on the prices they had listed on their website. I'm not keen on paying $4000 for for a 2KW system. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

you need to keep in mind i had the $8000 rebate plus 37 REC's at $40 each ($1480)
so thats $9480 of rebate in total

(your extra $4k is about right, but the payback time is crap)

the new rebate is only 143 rec's (for melbourne) you get more being in qld i think.

    have a look on whirlpool.net.au

and some other threads to work out what you will get as a rebate.

i actually called into their melb office and did some price negotiating

    best of luck

Thanks Lee that explains it :-)

Hardly seems worth getting solar at current prices. Might hold out and see what happens.

This stuff makes choosing a phone plan look like childs play. It must be so easy for the average consumer to get ripped.

Hi there get your self a group buy going, Go around to all your neighbours post signs in a shop and ask for families to join. Then hit all the supliers around and ask for their best price.
Im part of a group buy here in Adelaide and we ended up getting 200 house holds signed up and deposits paid.
Very happy Solar company was pleased to give a good discount.
In fact they are just starting up their third group buy now.\
Just a thought to help with cost.
    Cheers

I have noticed a couple of companies that offer "incentives"

good thought gavogr as i am sure with enough "leg work" you may be able to get your install for free.
if you managed a 5% bonus on each system sold, it would only take 20 to get yours for free

Thanks for your suggestion gavogr. What sort of money has been saved using group purchases, although I don't think I could ever get 200 people interested given current pricing.

Not sure if i can say how much but im getting a 4kw for about the price of some 2.8 kw.
Thats just from me looking at different web sites.
By all means if you like you can post some figures and i will tell you if its more or less.
I dint think this was going to be that big but all it took was some one ringing a local paper and telling them about it then the local news got wind and ran a small story on the group buy.
The guy that ran ours did alot of work getting them off the ground.
