    Default Jaycar and XP

    Hi all,
I just bought and built a jaycar programmer and am playing around with goldies. What program does everyone use, IC prog for the pic just freezes my machine and the LMEDIT and GGEDIT don't seem to want to work on XP. I have downloaded all the *.ocx files but nothing seems to work. Am I missing something? Can multi prog or similar work on the Jaycar?

I have all those programs (except for multiprog) working fine on XP. Try it on an old Win98 or 95 PC.

I used ICprog yesterday to program and verify a goldy Pic 16F84a on winxp sp2.
You need to download and install the windows xp driver as well and make sure the switch is out when you program the PIC and set oscillator to XT and turn "wdt" and "pwrt" and "cp" off.

I couldnt program the eeprom though had probs with the switch in. probably because my icprog doesnt have the setting for 24lc16b

Update, all is good. After a couple of days screwing around on my laptop and getting nowhere I tried on a desktop with xp pro and it works. I don't know why and after all the frustration I don't really care, thanks for all the help.

    Just a quick question

1: does laptop have com port
2: if not were you using a serial to rs232 cable or pcmcia to rs232

Reason i ask is that if you were using a usb to rs232 cable then that could be your problem as i have struck so many and read about so many being useless apart from the ATEN cable ( which i own and never miss's a beat )

Yeah, usb to serial cable. It's a bit of a bitch because some functions work, just when it comes to writing I kept getting "data interrupted" about halfway through verification (using LMEDIT). It never ends though.....now I've got problems with an emerald.
