    Default D:\ is not accessible

My wife is trying to burn some data, just using windows (save this file to D:\) and keeps getting this error. I have tried to right click on the drive letter and go properties, but there is no burning tab. The dvd drive is new and running XP. I know that she could use Nero or something, but just trying to keep things simple for her. Ideas?
    Thanks

If the drive is new you probably dont have the links on the back set properly.

Check if it is detected in the bios.

Have you tested the drive to see if it reads anything

    OK firstly.

If it is showing as Drive D:\ then it is most certainly being detected by the bios.

What is the model of the DVD drive ??? are you sure it is a burner ???
You say there is no record tab which hints to the drive being a read only device.

Go to -Control panel - system -device manager
Look in the DVD/CD-rom drives tab and tell us the drive model number.

    Let us know.
    Cheers.

It is definately a burner as i said in previous post, it does burn using nero etc, but i shouldnt have to use nero to save some word docs etc. The model is TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203B. And using TDK CD-R.

i found this on the web (theeldergeek.com)

    __________________________________________________ _________
    [Start] [Run] [Regedit]
    Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer
Modify/Create the Value Name [NoCDBurning] according to the Value Data listed below.
Data Type: REG_DWORD [Dword Value] // Value Name: NoCDBurning
    Value Data: [0 - Enable Burning / 1 - Disable Burning]
    Exit Registry and Reboot
    __________________________________________________ _________

i did this on one of my xp machines (set to 1) and it took away the recording tab in the burner properties, so create this entry and set to 0, see what happens

EDIT: or use this at own risk

i love windows as a last resort, right click my computer-->manage-->expand services and applications-->services-->right click "IMAPI cd-burning com service"-->properties-->startup type = auto, double check that the reg entry in the other post is present and set to 0 or use the reg file i uploaded, reboot.

Do you have InCd installed from Nero? It might help you to solve the issue.
It's free utility and lets you use your drive burning functions straight from windows explorer.
