It's feasible but not with a standard sized dish, so you'd probably need a solid dish of at least 2 metres and possibly 3....and even then you might only get the C1 transponders

You need a 10700 Ku Band LNB

    Dishes:

Offset is where the LNB is not directly facing the centre of the dish, but below the centre and angled up a bit.

This angle is 'offset' from the centre.

This type of dish is the most-common type used for Ku band and which all pay tv providers in Australia use as their standard dish. It's usually more of an oval shape, not round.

A 'prime-focus' dish is one which the LNB is pointed directly at the centre of the dish.

This type of dish is more-commonly used for C-Band signals, although they can be used for Ku band. These dishes are usually much larger than most Ku band dishes, mostly starting in size around 1.8 metres diameter and can be up to several meters in diameter. These dishes are round.

They are commonly available in two types of surface, solid and mesh.
Mesh has the advantage of having less wind loading and the solid having more gain than the same size mesh dish.

With any dish (offset or prime-focus) the larger the dish, the more gain, which is especially important when trying to receive weak satellite signals.

For some reason offset dishes aren't as common throughout Indonesia as prime-focus dishes.

Prime-focus dishes are easier to get and much, much cheaper to buy in Bali than offset dishes.

For any hope at all to receive Foxtel in Bali, you will need a very big solid (not mesh) prime-focus dish. Probably 3m or larger.

My advice is to find a friendly satellite shop in Denpassar and ask what they know about available Australian satellite signals. They would probably be very interested to see your working Foxtel card.

I have a good satellite contact in Bali, but for the life of me, I can't find my business card folder at the moment. The name of the business is 'Arjuna Parabola' but I can't remember any other details. If I find their card, I'll PM the details to you.

    Default a good start

karob pointed out this forum to me as I'm the guy that will be arranging the setup in Bali. All this info is great. At the moment (as far as I know) most sports bars have about a five meter hard dish to pick up live AFL, NRL etc. But these cost more than US$5,000 to obtain and set up. Plus, I really don't have the space to place a 5 meter dish.

But two meter dish (give or take a bit) is no problem, much easier to obtain and hide. All the technical stuff goes over my head though, and I'm sure it's easily translated.

I have used Arjuna in the past, so I'll get someone to give them a call, and I have another private technician on hand who know does most of our work, so I'll get him on the job as well.

a lot of the bars ive been to in bali seem to have about 3m dishes(same size as mine) with a ku lnb and most have access to aurora to watch the footy, the guys in the nw of wa used the same setup to watch tekom vision at one stage

    4,5 - 5,0m seems reasonable. 1,2-1.8-2.4-3.0 wouldn't cut it.

you get c1 easily on a 2.4m solid as bali is not far off the c1 beam and there is a fair bit of spill as they also beam into xmas island .been to indo many times always watched the footy on aurora but seldom seen a dish bigger than 3m. the only time you have trouble is obviously tropical storms or excessive cloud(usually followed by tropical storms)
have heard of guys as far north as thailand picking up c1 but dont know which size dish they are using

Solomon Islands reception using a 4m solid prime for both f****l and a***ra.
It does get blotchy in heavy overcast cloud, and drops off completely when stormy or raining. Most frustrating when that happened.

A 4m mesh prime is useless, but suitable for Aussie network and other non optus sats.

Dish costs there are extremely expensive, even after currency conversion.

Point to note, all this was before the addition of D3 to C1. Can't see why there would be a change with a***ra as nothing has changed there, but there may be a difference to f****l reception due to the transponder and sat changes of recent times.

Maybe someone else can shed some light with the recent changes to f****l, and if the reception has changed os.

Is this Timor Leste. What about West Timor, ie Kupang? Does the offset pick up both C1 and D3?
