not enough ram for text to speech
Just looking at the cheap Aldi Go Cruise 3.5" GPS for $89 on special from tomorrow 13/5/2010.
Just wondering if anybody knows anything about these units?
* What is the OS?
* What is the processor an speed?
* Size of internal ram and buffer?
* Does i have a memory card expansion slot?
* Can it run other GPS software?
* What is the battery life like?
From my understanding these usits run windows CE OS and IGO GPS software. Not sure what versions though. Assume if Windows C.E I can run other GPS software like TomTom for WinCE and use the tomtom application to update the GPS.

Purchased this morning, turned it on and found gps signal in about 10 seconds. backed up all files and then went to hollow mans thread and installed tts. now using English us Dave tts, with R17 maps and it works like a treat, so not bad for $89.00 from Aldi
This one caught my interest too.
A mate was looking to update his Navman and I don't think you could get a bigger bargain than this?
The interface looks like Igo8, but it's largely going to depend on whether it has a card slot and how much memory it has, that is if in fact it runs Windows?
If it's self contained it's going to be more difficult to hack.
Hopefully someone will buy one and post the stats (none on the ALDI site).

Aldi have a pretty good return policy so I wouldnt worry too much about buying from them.
I purchased one yesterday, tried it and everything worked fine. Now I'm trying to find out how I can get updates. I have downloaded the MS sync thingy and the device now shows up on my PC. I had a look at hollow mans thread but it is all a bit much for me (technical novice). Can you perhaps tell me where I can find updates on the net? I've read about toolboxes and naviextras.com, is that where I find them? Sorry to sound so stupid but this is because I am

Aldi return policy 60 day change of mind, if you dont like it within 60 days just return it in orginal box and reciept. 1 year warranty what the hell you just take it back anyway when a new model comes out. ( i use to work for Aldi)

Has anyone got the 3d cars working with this unit + igo8 ?
Hi GUys ...update>>>
At present there is no support for aldi's gps 3.5 inch model gps 3503
from the naviextras site or from tempoaustralia.
Purchasers of 3.5 inch units are asked to get on board a email notice to both aldi and tempo the support for the gps....and get them to amend the support at naviextra's for out ount..so we can creat a log on account..and use the tools..
Please note ..its been mentioned that ms active sync is needed to be installed prior to using the naviextra tools....but not proven.
So visit the tempo australia site ..and email your support as a owner for update to navie site for tools access and sign on log on..
Also note that a search on line for "" igo_r3_pda_usermanual_uk.pdf will provide a full detailed user guide for IGO for users

Hi fellas,
A few comments from a novice about Aldi's Go Cruise GPS-3503.
I found the in-box documentation to be pretty rudimentary, lots of missing GPS feature details, so I pointed that out to the support helpdesk. Upshot of it was, they emailed me the documentation for Aldi's Go Cruise GPS-4300. Without thoroughly checking it yet, looks like 4300 doccos or similar is what should have been supplied with the 3503 as the features seem to be similar and this time fully explained. So anyone wanting the features better explained, just get the helpdesk to send you the 4300 doccos.
Aside from the difference in screen sizes, what I find mystifying is the absence in the 3503 of one of the essential three map view modes as is available in the 4300. Meaning the 3D Track-up and 2D North-up map view modes are available, but absent is 2D Track-up. I tend to prefer the 2D Track-up map view mode so needless to say I'm disappointed it's missing. It may well be the reason I take it back for a cash refund.
Or am I doing something wrong or is there a workaround solution that gets me the 2D Track-up map view mode TIA fellas.
Cheers,
Ken
